I bred a puppy with this and managed to find a food that suited her - large kibble which she had to pick up individually and chew - which appears to be contrary to what is recommended (small mushy feeds).  When stabilised at about four/five months I gave her away to a pet home who knew what they were taking on.  They took her to their vet for a check up and he told them she would never thrive and they had her put down without offering her back or even telling me.  I will of course never know the outcome but when she left me she was doing fine.  When I asked about the condition I was told it was in certain lines and one dog in particular who was on both sides of the pedigree although four and five generations back.

Vets are all about MAKinG A  LIVING>>>most have no experience of GERMAN shepherds...

  END of subject.

NO   it is not worth days, years of managing a sick puppy...ME is a sickness..and it won't be cured.

TELL your vet to go visit A GERMAN SHEPHERD BREEDER, and tell her you do not want her advice you want an xray and you want to know why this pup is throwing  up.

As I told you in the pm...discussing what we say to the vet and then discussing here all your worries can be detrimental..

choose wisely what you tell publically..It would serve you better to pm the breeders here and listen to all of them and YOU decide what is important..

Selling or giving a pup with mega is not ever what I would do and I already pmed you and discussed why.

Life is already more complicated with healthy family and healthy dogs and pups and trying to maintain sanity in a world of sickness and vile...so do not add another to it..

Man has to be the alpha over his life and he has to make decisions for the BEST.

Tell your vet half of us on here have way more experience than she does with raising and breeding german shepherds. My own vets, all three of them will vouch for that one..

fawndallas, I agree with YellowRose and magdalenasins.

I think you need to persue this, with another vet if necessary.
If nothing else, you need to know 100% what you are dealing with, and how severe it is so that you can make a proper, educated decision on how to properly care for this little guy.

I wish you the very best with this little one, but PLEASE do persue this further!

I'm starting to read between the lines here, and I'm not going to beat my head off a wall.  Either get the pup xrayed or don't.  You've been advised and you are still nowhere near a resolution...I'm out.

Get the pup Xrayed, you are going to spend alot of money on these "management methods".  just get confirmation on what is wrong with the pup and make your decision from there.    You should probablly go to a scpecialist as your everyday vet isnt usually to keen on these types of things.   With the popping noise you describe this is almost certainly an esaphogus issue and your vet is an idiot or is wringing all the money he/she can out of you before telling you that it will cost you an addiional 150.00 to have the pup PTS.

I agree, I would not trust a vet that wants to treat symptoms with out a diagnosis..  I would not give a small pup Reglan.

You will spend more trying to suitably treat through trial and error than you will with an X-ray and a difinitive answer.

Ace was recently limping and we couldn't figure out why. Took him in for an X-ray which turned up nothing. So my option was since he was already under to go in to an old wound and see if maybe there was something in there that wasn't showing up on X-ray since the swollen digit and old wound were on the same foot or to wake him up and treat with anti inflamitories and wait and see and if it didn't get better then bring him back and start fro Scratch. So, knowing that opening up the old wound may find nothing I opted to do it anyway as I wanted an answer now not in three weeks. Plus it would have been more expensive to have to reseda tw than to just continue alon while already sedated. Anyway the exploratory turned up nothing. X-rays are normal and we still have no clue why he favours the one foot but I'm glad I did the exploratory and rules everything out from the get go Otherwise we would have been forking over another $$$ to do it now and it would turn up nothing as well.

Bottom line it's better for the vet (and she encouraged me to) to wake him up and treat the limping and come back in three weeks if he hand not stopped and we would go through this again. More $$ for them. Bigger pain in the rear for me. Treat the cause of the problem not the symptoms.

Every one is right, that the vets are in it for the money. They make their living off sick animals. If you pts, then that is one more sick dog they don't have to drain your pocket. Not all vets are like that, but most, especially young ones, are.

No different that cancer and big Pharma. No money for big Pharma in curing Cancer, only in treating it. That's why there will never be an available cure for Cancer despite the fact that the research is there and the cures have been found. Researchers need big Pharma to back it and why would they do that.

Fawn"    It only costs 25.oo at the most to pts a pup..sorry but someone is full of BS.

no vet charges that

It is 15.00 at my vet for a pup   20 .00 for next age and if adult  35.00  plus 20 .00 if they have to dispose of the body..

15.00 plus 20.00 is not  150.00   Something is strangely wrong here...I pmed you ...the others above have told yu ....take the tiger by the tale now..YOU make the decision
