Chaz Reinhold

by Chaz Reinhold on 17 April 2012 - 04:04

I used to get Chinese Crested a lot, but maybe that was due to the mange.

Most people know my GSDs are GSDs. The only time I've had someone question one of them, it was Star because her pigment is so faded she doesn't really have a saddle. And of course, if it's not the traditional B&T markings, some people don't think it's a GSD.

I'm taking her out a lot now, as my service dog, and the most frequent comment I get is "What a BEAUTIFUL dog/German shepherd!"

And of course, I wholeheartedly agree with them....

I am regularly asked why "I bought such an ugly mixed breed, especially when I already own a beautiful real GSD" (Senta- black/red). I always just shrug but my husband (the non dog person) gets upset and will launch into a droning lecture about what colours GSDs come in.

I don't think Bosco is ugly. :)

(I maintain a photo thread for my students so if you need more puppy photos ....)

Bosco is by far not ugly. I think black sables are the best looking GSDs. Of course that's just my opinion, but I see nothing ugly about your Bosco, or any of the black sables.

Bosco is gorgeous!!! I have Bosco envy! lol

The stud from the litter I'm hoping to get a pup from is a dark (black?) sable as well. I know colour is not important, but if I somehow got a dark sable, I think I'd have thought I'd died and gone to heaven. LOL  It's too much to hope for, so I just hope I get chosen and matched to a great dog :)

PS. What are those little table things I always see people's GSD's standing on? Are tehy just to give them a place to get off the ground if it's wet or cold?

Conspicuous, those are beds. Really, more of raised, fabric sleeping platforms, about 8inchs or so off the ground. People use them in their kennels as a way to keep their fur kids off the ground and as you guessed, keep them dry. :)

Some even use them in their houses, because it's what their pets prefer to sleep on. My kids have memory foam beds, but its all about preference, really.

Here's another picture of one for ya

My sable color GSD's when out in public are generally always referred to as "police dogs" but people don't seem to think they are GSD's. Most people seem to be more scared of the sables even my openly social dogs.
My 2 black GSD's people ask if they are lab mixes or guess the breed because they have seen solid black before. My 2 black & tans are the ones everyone wants to run up to & pet. They generally get the comments of how beautiful, etc.. But then quickly asked are they mixed / why aren't their backs sloped? Weird how most people always say they don't like the sable colors from the general public, but when they come out to meet us & the dogs those are the ones they are normally drawn to the most.

Bosco is very handsome & love his expression

They are just raised dog beds, Made with PVC pipe usually and canvas that is waterproof and harder to chew apart.

And Bosco is gorgeous. I love how people can just come up to anyone and announce how ugly they think their dog is. Mine were always too skinny.

Ok, thanks. I was wondering about those things. Where do you get them? I've never seen them at a pet supply store before, but then again, I've never been looking for them.

Some of these stories are so funny! And scary...  lol

I have two all aluminum Kuranda beds (Senta is a dedicated bed chewer). The beds are quite expensive but I hated seeing concrete sores on Senta's elbows from her kennel (she refuses to lay on the stall mat or use her dog house).

I ordered: all aluminum, x-large size (44 x 27), 40 oz. burgundy or green vinyl. I leave the beds out in all weather (I live in SW Ontario, Canada.) and they have held up perfectly.

You can see the bed better in this picture of Bosco.
