Hexe, who knows? There's a history of playing fast and loose with dogs that she acquired on paper but were actually paid for by third parties, dogs she held out as being hers at clubs where she worked them that weren't ever hers, and other assorted nonsense - so I suppose it's possible Hessel was sold to a third party and then was "declared dead" by Vickie via "lung infection" so as to avoid paying for him.

Here's a blast from the past; should've let everyone here know exactly what sort of ethics were at play a whole year and a half ago, but of course collectively we chose to stick our heads in the sand and refused to believe what was right in front of our eyes because it was a respected regular whose behavior was involved:

Yep, DD, that thread should serve as a cautionary tale. I had met Vickie in Oklahoma and spent some time with her on more than one occasion. She had me fooled, but the truth of the matter, and what I learned, is just how easily I was fooled. I can't blame Vickie for my shortcomings, but what I can do is learn from the situation, and never defend someone again without having ALL THE FACTS.

Sue, psychopaths are clever and always have a ready tale to explain away any weirdness you might observe. You can't blame yourself for being fooled by someone who has invested ten times as much effort into covering up the truth as you can spend trying to discover it.
