Topdog,

Your link doesn't show any new or updated news. The latest article is from March 11th, over a month ago. Not sure what the point of posting it is?

Here's a case of 197 animals seized, 37 of which were dogs, some cats small animals (rabbits) and some horses.  Almost 200 animals and guess how many they adopted out to friends that same day? within a week?, 2 weeks? a month?

These were taken in the beginning part of November 2010 and were not ok'd to be released until the very end of January of 2011 and then it was done by a plea deal and only 193 of the 197 taken.  AND as accompanies most rescue operations like this they had this to say "

compare that with what happened with some GSD's worth some cash to those involved?

This thing just keeps stinking more each day.  There should be a turnover of a certain board of directors, investigation and prosecution if warranted.

Irisatsea  said these were 'working' dogs, any dogs 'trained and

shown' would go mad just sitting about.

Pam, I am willing to bet that sitting about - caged - was mostly what

Dawn had them doing, most of the time, long before she stopped

cleaning them out (or was unable to).  Even the outside pen we

had a photo of was hardly enormous.  TOO MANY dogs to even

walk them all regularly, in all probability, let alone put in much time to

actually training them for the Show ring.  And certainly to train them

properly in a WORKING sense for anything else.  You presumably are

aware of how long Tracking takes, for instance ?

I think if you go back and read my earlier posts on this thred I was

more than prepared to consider the circumstances Dawn may have

found herself in, to the extent I took a bit of flack off other posters

for that;  but that no way excuses anybody having more GSDs than

they can possibly cope with looking after, in anything but the most

basic (and therefore eventually destructive) way.  Nor does it excuse

unethical behaviour by the HS concerned,  which certainly appears

to have taken place.  And I am not hiding behind my keyboard;  FWIW

I remain, yours sincerely,  Linda Swift, in the UK.  And yes I have been

around the Show scene in my country   &  I have kept multiple dogs

(and been a little involved with Rescue) - so I do have a bit of an idea

what I am talking about.

Ok, so I have read a lot of comments regarding these poor GSD's.  I am really pretty appaled that some of you are not happy that people that are involved with the breed would step forward to help give one of these dogs an amazing home.  Yes, some of it was done very quickly, but that happens accross the board.  My orginal breed is Irish Setters, and years ago there was a seize of a kennel in NH of 20 plus dogs.  I know personally many breeders that helped take these dogs and get them out of a horrific situation.  Weather they showed and or bred the dog or not, they gave them a very loving home.  Yes, some of them were shown and bred, but not after all health testing was done.  There were some amazing dogs, with some pedigrees and old lines that may have been lost.  I am all for rescue, I think there are people on this thread that are not seeing the loving conditions that these dogs were given.  What GSD would not want to be on a farm doing what they are suppoed to do?  They are a working breed and I don't feel it is fair that people are critizing the wonderful people that gave these dogs a second chance.  If I had the oppurtunity or the correct space to take one of these dogs on, I absoultly would have.

Well, its all good that the dogs got new homes, no one wanted the dogs to stay sitting in the dog pound.

It was done wrong, and, as has been previously stated, dirty.

I don't care WHO has these dogs, they should NOT be breeding them. That's the bottom line. Yes, some did step up 'just to help', others stepped up, to help themselves.

I don't think there is any danger of losing no long lost bloodlines here.

There were numerous laws broke here, and it does bother the crap out of me,

I guess the due process laws mean nothing,

   How bout this one,

NY AGM L sec 377-a NY code section 377A- Spaying neutering of dogs and cats

1) the legislature finds that....IT IS THEREFORE DECLARED TO BE THE PUBLIC POLICY OF NYS THAT.....

2) No animal shelter, pound, dog control officer, humane society, dog or cat protective associations, or duly incorporated society for prevention of cruelty to animals, SHALL RELEASE ANY DOG OR CAT FOR ADOPTION TO ANY PERSON, unless prior thereto  a) THE DOG OR CAT HAS BEEN SPAYED OR NEUTERED, or

 b) the person adopting the dog or catvshall have executed a written agreement...to have dog/cat spayed or neutered within 30 days,

In the case of dogs/cats under 6 months old, within 30 days of reaching that age...humane society bears cost of spay/neuter.

No state, county, town law can be enacted to the contrary...only exception because of age or health as Certified by licensed Vet..

Man I would live to see Perez lose him job over this. In fact I may just push for it.

This entire thing stinks to high heaven...from beginning to, well, probably the end.

I for one think that the laws were totally broken by MANY state agencies here, and again, yes, that bothers me

This is a VERY BAD PRECIDENT TO BE ABLE TO BE SET...IT OPENS THE DOOR FOR EVERY RESCUE, SHELTER  AND GROUPS  TO TAKE ADVANTAGE ,FOR MONETARY GAIN, of EVERY ANIMAL IN NEED OF RESCUE.

It is a sad day for the abused dogs of society if this is allowed to stand..My God, how do people not see that?

by traleekennels on 19 April 2014 - 04:04

I can agree with the laws of any state...but when there are 39 dogs to try to get out of a terrible situation, you are going to slam the people that gave them a good home?  I know the people that personally that were involved with this resuce and getting dogs into good homes.  Are you condeming us that show dogs?  Do you think that a reptuable breeder and or someone that shows dogs can't give these babies a great home?  I agree that some of it was done quick and maybe not by the state of NY law.  I can gaurentee you that if that was one of my dogs/ puppies in that disgusting filtth, I would 100% want  for any of these breeders to take my dogs until it was settled.  It saddens me to think that there are people that really want to punish or put a bad name out there for the dogs they have taken in from this situation.  I feel like some of you are slandering some of these people, and it makes me wonder why Fank is one of those.  What do you have against him?  Did Charlene do a bad job with this, I don't think she did.  As far as the AKC, they are a pedigree database.  That's what they do, they record stud dogs and brood bitches.  They maintain pegdigress.  They are not there to offer proof of owner ship...There are bill of sales for that.  The GSD people as a whole were trying thier damnist to get these dogs out of shelters and get them back to their rightful breeders/owners.  I think there a a few on here that are taking this way out of context.  If any of you people that are slamming these breders saw any breed/dogs of yours livng in those conditons, wouldn't you try to help.  I have seen the dog that was being bashed this past weeked, and met him..He was very happy and working his way into a better conditon, all becuase of the person that took that dog.  He has a farm to run on and a loving home.  I think maybe you actually need to get in touch with the"breeders" that took these dogs on and talk to them directly.  Please stop making accusastions.  If you have proof of any poor behavior that feel free to share it.

by SitasMom on 19 April 2014 - 05:04

kitkat, if this is true......then the spca has broken even more laws......when it "adopted" the two to Frak De Bem.

i'm really fed up with the government and other simpathedic agencies running ruoughshad over our constitutional rights!

Kitkat, the animal wellfare act states that litter cannot be broken up until 8 weeks, do you know of a new york law about this also?

by traleekennels on 19 April 2014 - 05:04

Can I ask why is Frank being brought up on this thread?  He is the only one being mentioned, is it because he showed Dante last weekend?  Does everyone here even know who Frank is? Does any one care how much he loves his dogs?

by SitasMom on 19 April 2014 - 05:04

By state law, every dog "rescued" from Dawn shoud have been neutered/spay. Frank has at least 2 that are still intact, and his intention is to use them for showing and breeding!

Ill gotten gains..........

IMO, he is part of the problem.........and the problem is corruption!
