Mystere

Von Ruiz,

I loved that dog to death, but what a mess!!       Plus, she tried to  LITERALLY kill the Scottie three times.  Once, opened her up from throat to belly.   They had "issues" with which was going to be alpha between them.  Yet, she was so attached to the Scottie that she actually needed to be with her when they were boarded.  She is to this day the only gsd I have ever had that was OFA Excellent.    Her name was Shasta Osota of Nordlicht.  Yeah, that Nordlicht!!  So, you know, it was just a mess all around!!

Oh Man! I've never owned a Scottie but I'm a groomer and every one I've laid my hands on is a FIRECRACKER, she's so lucky you were there to save her!

Imagine that.. OFA Excellent on a dog with all those health/behavior issues. I still can't get over everything you listed up there

Now, you know why I went to the European lines!!

You also know without being told that the Scottie started every one of those fights and why I have asked friends to kick my ass, if they ever hear of me even thinking of getting another Scottie!  They are the cutest, funniest, fiestiest, most tenacious, fearless, smart-as-a-whip, and  SPITEFUL and STUBBORN little "big" dogs in the world!  Own one and you know why the clans had a pack of them called "Diehards" that they took into battle with them.  Tough, tough, tough little dogs.  You also know why you rarely see them in AKC Obedience trials, and the very few you do see are 7 or 8 years old at CD level.

Mystere, I agree with you 100 % going to European lines. I retired a year ago and decided to get back into showing Am. S/L. which I had previously been involved in for 20+ years.

Made a phone call to an old acquaintance, was given an absolutely gorgeous pup from a very well bred litter. No charge because the guy knows I will show the dog and also use him as a handler.

All the way home, my wife and I cannot believe we come up with such an excellent pup.

First sign every thing is not well, after repeated trips to the park for show training, the pup still tries to escape when a stranger approaches.

Second sign, I keep working with the pup. He grows (still very beautiful for AC)  When he starts shedding, I go to Lowe's and buy a shop vac, bring it home and start to clean his room.  The outside door is closed, the puppy can't escape, so he lies in the floor and starts screaming and  pissing every where.

This is the last straw for me, so I returned the pup to the breeder and vow to my wife to get a "tough as nails " German dog.

I know nothing of these dogs, not even S/L W/L, so I end up in Aachen, my very first SV show, do a lot of research and finally in January end up with my German pup. He is 12 weeks old.

So, I give him a few weeks to settle in with no stress. Then comes the big day. I'm going to run the shop vac with him present. I open the outside door, because I don't want to have to again mop up piss.

I turn the vac on, the puppy does not run, I start to vacuum hair from the corners and the puppy begins to bark at the wand, so I very gently move the wand in his direction.

The pup watches this approach, still without running or pissing, when it gets closer, he grabs the wand, pulls it loose from the hose, runs outside with it and and begins to abuse it.

And me, I'm still smiling.

Rik, that sounds just like my European line dog, except he's 2 years old so he grabs the entire vacuum cleaner.

Mine have always ignored the vaccuum cleaner entirely.  They apparently think vaccuming their hair from the carpet or the car is just another of those strange things humans do, like picking up poop with a scooper, instead of just leaving it there, like a reasonable dog.   They give me this look, as if they are simply indulging me and my strange quirks.

Penny, thanks for your flippin post. I'm sure your opinions are appreciated.

Still laughing at your ornery Scottie!! I DID assume she started the fights lol

That is why I also went with European lines. I had Galan (W/) impoted from Belgium, by references. He came from a stand-up AWESOME guy. I couldn't be happier with him.

Jena (S/L) was a gift from a friend in Germany, and she came from a well known kennel also. I am pleased with her too!

Not trying to hijack the thread here, and I wish you the best here blkred! There are some very good pointers on here for you.
