"Supply & Demand"...When you have a Demand for something and there's a limited quantity...Then the Supply will be priced accordingly...
With the German Shepherd...The Demand is high for GOOD dogs...For Police Work...Security/Protection...Service Work...and even Sport...Therefore the price is going thru the roof...And what makes the prices go up is there's always people that are willing to pay those prices...
When Importing...You have to pay for much more then the puppy or dog...You have Shipping...Crates...Paperwork...and even (into the U.S.) sometimes U.S. Customs...and Brokers...All of these things drive the price up and up...
In the past few years Shipping prices have sky rocketed...I mean time you pay for all the costs to Import a puppy it can cost $2000 or more...

these:
5 yr old female, been bred a few times, has SG but no formal titles, does have HD/ED/DM cleared, from titled WL pedigree $7,500
2yr old male, known WL pedigree, no titles & doesn't say what training's been done, HD/ED clear, $7000
1 yr old female, basic OB training, but can come with additional training(huh?) WL type, $4,500
6 month old male, WL, "puppy" training $3500
Do posters need to pay? Or is the service free?
Just curious, whether someone would post what, at least I, consider overpriced, and have to pay to post, or whether they can just throw the hook in the water for free and see if anyone bites.

Basic ads are free, premium ads are paid for.
People have odd ideas of what's appropriate. As I said, the same poster w/the exorbitant untitled dogs wanted my BLUE male for stud. I mean...wth??? I adore this blue boy, and he's a super nice animal.......but he's not a stud. Period. Until the SV says blue is accepted, he's not a stud. End of story.

As Jenni said above, regular classifieds are free to any registered poster. Those were just ads I pulled off varies sell by owner sites as examples. Not sure if any of them are actual dogs listed on here, lol

this is real interesting. I wonder if people actually pay those amounts. I just finished paying for a pup, difficult to let go of my hard earned money, but I now the dam, the sire, and many of their off-spring really well, all of them in person, so I have a reasonable idea of what I'll be getting. But I wonder whether the market is THAT hot for GSD's that people will pay for some of those listings.

I agree on the prices...I found this off of a German Shepherd breeder's site advertising prices of 8 week old puppies...But, at the end of the day...people can charge what they want. It's their right and it's up to buyers to either pay it or not.
