Baerenfangs Erbe, coincidentally, the thread in the Sport/Working forum entitled,"Are there any PROVEN Fero free males in USA now?" was opened by someone who has a SchH3, Wotan granddaughter that he's looking to breed.  So there's one to look into as well.

I bred over Mex vom Bärenfang who produced the 2004 Universal Siegerin (USA)V- Manta vom Rheinland SchH3 IPO3,KKL1 over her I now have a son SG-Evan vom Rheinland SchH3 KKL1 and a grand daughter Panta vom Rheinland. Mex had true fighting desire and super stable social temperament and great speed into the helper which he contributed , to my bloodlines.

Thank you all for the great information. I'm def. keeping an eye out and if the right dog/pup comes along I wouldn't say no, especially if the dog was linebred on Gildo.

Thank you Hexe for pointing the topic out.

Pia, it doesn't surprise me that Mex was such a stable dog. It is what my father always strived for. True working dogs, yet super stable within families. He would have never accepted a dog that we could have not handled.

Meanwhile, you see a lot more dogs out there that are not good with kids and that you have to supervise. One of my fosters is a one year old bitch. She's a nice looking solid black female that could go through as working lines, she's got nice drives and spunk. Is American mish/mash, while I like her, she went after kids and I would never be able to trust her with a family.
You got to hate BYB's who just don't know what they are doing and producing.

My dog is 6,7,7-7,8 on Gildo.  I know that is not really very close and there is a lot of dilution that far removed but he is a great dog. Very stable. Loves children. At ease in all circumstances and in mixed company. He is also scrappy and loves a good fight. He is not over the top in drive though. Very settled in the house.  Moderate drive on the IPO field. Gets bored with a passive helper.

My first Shepherd was a Barenfang dog. 1991 Hero v. Barenfang, out of Orlie and Heidi. He was supposed to be a Gildo son but Gildo died before the breeding could be done. I always enjoyed my time with Weilands. Many great dogs that I got to see in person. I liked them so much I have a 5wk old litter on the ground that is 2x3 Karn v. Fegelhof which puts Olko Barenfang on the top and bottom. Very nice puppies. All of my dogs but one go back to dogs from the Barenfang Kennel. I loved Gildo on and off of the field. I remember Danielle had a Gildo son I wanted very badly but they would never sell him because they said it would break her heart.

You must be either talking about "Baerle" or "Garfield". Those were Danielas dogs. Baerle was a sable, Garfield was black and tan. In 1991 we still lived at Scharhof. That year is a bit blury to me since I had that accident and spent the year, from June on, in bed or wheelchair LOL.
Daniela had a hand for picking good dogs. Kind of funny that I am the one ending up with all the Shepherds and my sister has a Jack Russel and some mix and my other sister has a Jack Russel and Rhodesian Ridgeback... both have become professional horse trainers in dressage and jumping and are quite successful. Mom and Dad are running the farm with my youngest sister Tina. Right now they are in the middle of Hay Season.

BTW. my father always believed Orlie to be an even stronger dog than Gildo.

It was Garfield, and your mom would not part with him. Daniela was quite the horse enthusiast back then also. I came to the kennel in Mannheim by the US military base with Michael. Your dad was very fond of Orlie. He talked Michael into breeding Heidi (Sagus daughter) to him and he picked my Hero for me. He was a great dog.

Yes she was. These days she's much more relaxed about it all and is a self employed horse trainer.

I will never forget Michael and his beautiful wife. I know one day someone else was there too but I am not sure if it was you or not. What I do remember is that we were in the camping trailer and tried to get the Olympics on that little TV and cheering on Mike. I also remember when he showed up, sneaking up on my mom from behind and giving her the biggest scare. He got a kick out of that one. That was a surprise visit.

He is an awesome person with an awesome personality.

Yeah, he is still fond of Orlie. He's trying to talk me into a litter with Yukon (even though he's not titled, he believes in the genes and out here, you don't need a titled with the AKC. I'm debating whether or not to do it, but I will have to make a decision soon before it's too late. ) and he's trying to talk me into finding a male that has a strong Orlie or Olko background so I can get a litter with my female.
I have a phenomenal female. Only problem is the resources out here are rather limited. In Germany, she'd already have the 3 and KKL1. I'm hoping to have finally found a club within an hour distance that is charging reasonable prices. I'm mainly involved with SAR but my SAR Dog ended up having perinal fistula at THREE years. And I am not going to continue to work a dog with a horrible disease while I got two other, perfectly healthy dogs that need to be work, plus a dog has got to be without fault and flaw. It's just how I was raised. Great pedigree, great working ethic. Not a pretty dog but like my father always said "Work Ethic makes them pretty." but she's just not healthy.
So from now on I am concentrating on my best female, which I should have done a long time ago.
