GSD Lineage

Many if not GSDs used to look like the dam at one point. The standard has changed and people have bred for redder dogs with as generous masks as possible.
The best way to tell early if the pup is a long coat is comparing it to the other puppies in the litter. But , time will tel you for sure.
. You can search for Littlest Hobo on this site and find many examples of dogs with similar looks to the dam.

Yeah but Lineage, look at her ears, the planes of her face, her overall
body balance , the 'silver' pigment looking more white than anything ...
not just talking about her 'mask'.  If you put this girl in for a Korung of
the early 1900s in Germany using the original SV Standard, she might
still not pass;  certainly under todays expectations of the breed it would
be difficult to find a Surveyor or Kormeister or Show Judge anywhere who
might grade her on her looks alone. If she has proved herself and has an
IPO level, maybe - but even then I think its unlikely.  She might be a truly
lovely companion dog to whoever her owner is, but that doesn't automatically
make her a correct specimen of her breed - else we may as well say a dog
which is KNOWN to have one GSD parent and one Siberian Husky parent
can qualify as a V rated German Shepherd Dog.  The two dogs you post
pictures of as examples have more substance, less 'tuck up'... are generally
more 'typical' of the breed.

Hundmutter,
I would not be surprised if she did or did not have some husky. I would be surprised if she was less than half Shepherd. (But I don't see husky as you do)
A while back someone uploaded an image of two whites, one a husky, one a Shepherd. good to compare the faces.
She looks like the Shepherd to Me.
Liebe Bambi   I think the Pup will be long coat too, will have to see if the OP shares an image of the pup older:

Read everything ,and all I have to say is this: This is not what a GSD looks like.Doesn't matter if long coat or not.
Cute pup,though.

I'm with Hundmutter. It isn't just the dog's mask, it's not just the coloring, and I admit that many breeders steer clear of the color silver, but anatomically speaking she doesn't fit the GSD standard. She looks like a cross. And the pup is so young, it doesn't look like the white shepherd you posted. I know it may grow and will totally look different in a few weeks and look more like a Shep, but for now it looks like a cross. Or a poor example of the breed.

The OP is Asking about coat length, I'm not too happy with the free critique going on here, but can agree on the issues. please don't let it get abusive.
The Male pictured is in the database.

Trying hard, for my own part, not to let it deteriorate !  [Why d'you think
I haven't critiqued the male ?  ; )]   But it is difficult when someone
presents a photo of a puppy that clearly doesn't quite fit what it is
supposed to be and asks for predictions about it, not to get into the
hows and whys.  'Nuff said ?
