Two Moons

At close range one could do more harm and keep the pressure on better with a pump shotgun and large buck shot.
More coverage and continuous ramp loading makes it more practical than any clip fed rifle and not so dependent on accuracy.
Also it would not travel through buildings killing people in the next town.

My first post was how to prevent this kind of problem, all of these bad people were some bodies children once.

If you asked me how to stop one I say by whatever means available, if this means a gun fine, it could also mean a fire ax, whatever's handy.
A gun can be very handy in the hands of the right person, not all people are the right people to carry guns.

The more people who carry the better the chance that one of them actually have the skills to use it.

Moons,,I am agreeing with you,, again!!...

scary..lol,,

Thank you Ruger1,
I am still pissed off to see these people using this tragedy in such a manner.
It's just wrong.

When it comes to stopping what is in reality terrorism the only tool is advanced knowledge.
A suicide bomber, shooter, high jacker once set in motion is almost impossible to stop except with deadly force.
And even then the bomb can still go off, shots can be fired.

What about big pharma, why are they not being investigated or banned from selling these psychotropics ? Everyone of these tragic shooting said the shooters were on a drug called Fanapt.

Not only that but, we have NO idea if he truly had access to these weapons that were supposedly his mothers. We cannot see the serial numbers on these guns that were used to show they were hers. His mother is dead. We have NOTHING to go on, just what we are being fed via the propaganda pushing media.

Moon do you feel as if it should be harder to obtain a semi automatic or high capacity clips, hollow points? What do you think about all the modifications that are available for Bushmaster?

I am not in favor of arming teachers, but I wouldn't have a problem with armed secrurity guard patrolling the school halls. I am also in favor of only selling semis to people who have been thoroughly checked out before the sale. I'd like to see them banned period, I don't get why anyone needs one, but that might be too far to the right for most and we all need to think compromise and head for the middle on this issue.

I live at a golf/trap range resort. My DH teachs skeet and trap.Everyone here is a gun owner including us; mostly shortguns and pistols. One friend owns over 100 Glocks and maybe 25 automatics, he likes looking at them and thinks they are like money in the bank. I have to admit I don't get that level of fascination with firearms, who so many? At one time I had 14 dogs and and I imagine many would think that was over the top too.

I saw a report on TV last night reporting the results of a poll of owners of semis like the Barbie Bushmaster.About 25% said they used their guns for huntng. Do hunters actually mow down animals with semis? I can only assume those animals would not be candidates for feeding anyone so the intent would be simply to kill? Somehow that thought is almost as scary as thnking about nutjobs getting guns. Some might already have them?

Blitzen, America is 238 years old. Gun control has only been around for maybe 60 years. Think about it. The balls on the anti-gun crowd are really tiny with a stench of the british crown.

Any suggestions on how to prevent mass killings, BE?

Two Moons

Blitzen,
The Bushmaster is an after market manufacturer of the Colt design and not the best one out there.
My son built his AR style rifle from components and is a much better, tighter fitting rifle than most over the counter Bush Masters.
There are more options and add on's than I could list.

High capacity magazines is another made up term that has little meaning, you can have a clip of 20 rounds was standard government issue at one time, 30 is more, 50, or you can go up too 100 if you like, or you can adapt some weapons to fire from a belt fed mechanism with as many rounds as a belt holds depending on the belt.

For the price of a tax stamp you can, if you qualify, own a machine gun.

Hollow points have two purposes, one is more damage at point of impact, the other is they break up and do not travel through multiple impacts.

Semi automatic rifles and shot guns are legal for hunting but usually have limits on capacity and no people do not hunt with a bush master, the round is too light for large game and can be easily deflected which does not happen so easily with larger heavier calibers.

The media is misleading about most of the facts concerning these weapons.

No I do not want to see teachers doing anything but teach, if schools need security they would be better to hire professionals for that, it's not a part time jobs for amatures.

We have the right to bear arms to defend against tyranny, for this we would require the same state of the art weapons as the tyrants we would be opposing or else we would lose rather quickly.

moons, i agree with you on the shotgun in close quarters, which makes it ideal for home protection, howev er, i can't see it being
effective for columbine, aurora or sandy hook.  the one thing you don't want to do when protecting others is to get shot yourself.
some of the cops around here carry shotguns, .40 cal handguns & a few even have high powered rifles.  we aren't a high crime
area (we all have guns) but i can see where different types of firearms would offer advantages in different situations.

i think we are having a good discussion here.  even though people have different points of view, i think we might even have a
better chance of coming up with solutions than our worthless congress.  they don't seem to be able to come together on
anything.
