@Gizewski.....no problem....I just have a different perspective. I bred my first litter in 1977 and bred my last litter in 2009. Dogs from BOTH litters became police dogs, dogs from both litters went to first time owners. I really don't believe in working line or show line, but rather dogs that can do what the breed was meant to do. I am referred by one of the largest animal hospitals in Phila. To go into people homes and deal with problem dogs....most problems are aggression....I am highly compensated for it....don't know if that makes me a professional. I have handled and trained both military and police dogs......I have sold many many German Shepherds over the years...mostly to families and my experience is they don't end up in shelters. I broker and import dogs for others and again mostly to families though I do have vendors license in NJ and NY for providing police dogs.....I have seen hundreds and hundreds of quote working line dogs and the majority are in families. Btw, your experience is different than mine with shelters and working lines....there are far more Black and Tan or red dogs that end up in shelters than working lines....where I live. (And one of our club members has run a shelter for 25 years.....so I'm not saying what is right or wrong, but from my small limited experience the vast majority of working line dogs are doing well in home....sure they are different from some lines today, but my experience is most families adjust to there dogs needs and it meshes. Are there examples of it not working....sure! , but in comparison to the number of WL dogs out there they are the exception and not the rule...take care!

@Gustav
I apologize for taking your post the wrong way... As we all have different things that we have learned. I somewhat have the opinion that you have... The not believing in working or show... Sometimes I see things that way. As long as the dog can do what it's supposed to do that's all that matters. I have never touched a military or police dog... I was taught that "working" dogs need to be trained... Over here in northern Indiana there are so many cases of dogs getting bored, unruly, out of control, ect. I went to a few places and thats where I got the whole "working/higher drive" dogs shouldn't be left unworked as mentally they fall apart. Can you send me links? I wan't to look more info up about your club and what not. I am highly intrigued. I have a short attention span by the way :/ It sucks

No need to apologize, like you said we are both seeking the same things, good representatives of the breed and maintaining the breed with education and training.

Its funny Gizewski you ask not to be judged by Gustav, yet thats exactly what you did to me. I have probably been in dogs longer than you have and I ran a rescue for 9 years to boot for shepherds, other working breeds and mastiffs. So you just never know who your responding to behind that computer screen
Thanks Gustav you made some excellent points that I should also consider when posting here.

Funny thing is I did not use the words "do not judge me" nor anything in those terms. Hmm the funniest part about this is I started basic training with dogs at the age of 12. I am currently 21 and I soak up information like a sponge. Oh that's cool man. I have worked with presa canario, cane corsos, dutch shepherds, ankle biters of many different breeds (I am into big dogs myself), horses, and even a alpaca. I have yet to work with a malinois (I cant wait for the chance). I am a city boy myself. Born and raised. So I think I can hold my own in the dog world especially where some trainers give up. It also seems as if you do not know as much as you let off to be. No disrespect meant... but I have seen a few of your posts and they come off as noobish. Not saying that I do not have any noobish posts but they were rather common sense things that you did not know. Especially when things involve money. I am not trying to be rude so please do not take it that way. But that is just my opinion.

@vk4gsd Why should I hush? When quite frankly you seem as if you could use a shot or a hug... Possibly both. Have fun with that... If you can.

In order to do Mondio you will need a fast high drive puppy that is very environmentally sound.I have seen Bady work he is such a dog. Ring dogs need to fast to the bite many german shepherds are not they think too much. You do not want a defensive or sharp dog for this sport. Much has to do with the actual puppy that is picked as it would from any litter you are interested in. Much of your success also will be due to the beginning drive building and foundation that you yourself will do as well.
