Someone asked recently about Pet Insurance due to an eye surgery their dog needed, I responded and told them Insurance companies will not cover it due to it being a pre-existing injury and noted by the Vet. I have Healthy Paws and No problems at all :) You have to give them a Full Health report from a Vet showing the dog is healthy with no issues. If any issues arise during your vet report and before your 15 day coverage date it will not be covered and will be considered pre-existing. Their statement>>>> In order to process a claim, you must allow us to contact your present and previous veterinarian(s) and provide us with the necessary authority to obtain any information we may require.
d. For working pets, no coverage shall apply for any condition resulting from activities related to racing,
breeding, law enforcement, guarding or for any commercial use.
It's the only insurance I found that covers HD without paying extra.
This is a good reason to get Pet Insurance as soon as you get your pup!

dog and puppy insurance
Our plan does not place restrictions on hereditary and congenital conditions. We cover these expensive conditions as long as your veterinarian has not previously noted clinical symptoms. Lifetime hip dysplasia coverage is also included at no extra cost when you enroll your dog before the age of 6. A 12-month waiting period applies for Hip Dysplasia coverage. It's the only insurance I found that covers HD without paying extra.

I have Trupanion...I just submitted my first claim yesterday, as soon as I hear back on what they cover on my bill I will let you know how happy I am with them.

Different dogs, Fawndallas. I originally had a couple w/Trupanion, then started a rescue w/Healthy Paws. I couldn't decide between the two, so I figured I'd see by experience. Premiums are nearly identical. The annual deductible is nice if you have a lot of dogs. Per incident deductibles can add up fast.

Thanks for the details Jenni. I am leaning towards Healthy Paws. I need to give them a call though to see exactly if schitzhund sport is ok. As I am not breeding and there is no commercial side of it, we might pass.
Thanks to everyone else. If you have anything, don't hesitate.

It's SchUtzhund...and if you can't spell it, then I don't think you're serious enough that any company is going to deny you insurance!
LOL! It's a hobby, a game, a sport. I can't see them having an issue with it. Heck, if they do, they're missing out on a big niche...
I'm anxiously awaiting an insurance reimbursement for my darling Chihuahua's emergency vacation this past weekend.
It's a doozy.
