Abby Normal

There's a thought! But, no tattoos and unclaimed.  I would turn heaven and earth inside out to find one of my dogs if I lost them.

Just the thought of losing one of my dogs scares the hell out of me, and I do my damndest to make sure that it never happens. If by some real unlucky freak accident it did I would literally turn the world inside out searching. If my dog was in a pound I would find it, unless of course it had been stolen and dumped in another part of the country and then you are in real trouble.

Really, that IS one good looking dog. Strange how a good looking dog like that is just "thrown away", and then there are people spending thousands of dollars on dogs. That are structured like some of the dogs we all discuss here. Go Figure huh.

Yes Abby, I agree with you. I'm a fanatic about "marking" my own dogs, they are tatto'ed, microchipped, and then each has an AKC CAR tag, a name tag, and their microchip tag all hanging on them!

Yep Sunsilver I believe he is a "mutt" LOL. But myself I like those mutts and it is definately working for me. Like Marjorie said also that's no BYB dog--and if it was an accident I'll take that kind of accident any day..........LOL....................I'd give anything to know his pedigree.

Tha main thing is thanks to Steph and her contacts he is safe and I know she will find him a great home...................

Vonnisk, I have a 'mutt' too, as you probably know, and I love her to pieces!

He's a gorgeous boy, and if finances weren't so tight now, and if my elderly male weren't so crotchety with other males.... [sigh!]

I too can't believe no one is looking for him, OR MAYBE HE WAS STOLEN??? He is way too nice of a dog to dump...or some breeder sold him and didn't care where he went to, so sad...I just hope I can find the right home for him, to do him justice. The shelter fixed him asap. He is really a very quiet dog. Not hyper, just seems to have a good head on his shoulders, he is a thinker, doesn't just barrel through...gentle on lead, listens well. Great eye contact. Oh well. Wonder if he was stolen- that was a good thought... Maybe he got out and was picked up and transported away from where he could be found, too much to handle, so dumped. My guess is his breeder would tear his/her hair out by the roots if she knew he was altered, but better altered than dead. IMHO, a dog like this doesnt come along very often, getting the best of both lines. I bet there wouldnt be all this rivalry between the am bred people and german bred fanciers if there were more middle of the roads, like this one! It would be a win-win for both, since the gene pool could be opened up, with no one having to bitch about extremes they dont like.

Oh yeah Sunsilver, I forgot you sure do have a mutt. LOL..................

Marjorie about what you said regarding not having the rivalry, I just wanted to share my experiences. The Am sl people don't seem to care one way or another about mixing the lines. It's the wl people that are dead set against it. I've been told I am watering down the lines, why would I ever want to screw up good dogs like the wls by breeding them to ski sloped nerve bags, there's no Am sls that are good for anything but running around the ring and so on and so forth. There used to be someone on here that she and I got to emailing back and forth--when I bred my wl male to my mentor's Am sl female, she told me it was a miracle God didn't strike me dead for doing such a thing. Needless to say we no longer communicate

and haven't since I did that. So I pretty much kept things to myself. Now honestly I don't care what people think because I am opening the gene pool, for myself if nothing else, and I like what's coming out of this mixture. As long as I am health testing and studying pedigrees as to what lines will compliment what lines, and producing and seeing dogs produced that have the temperaments and drive to work, then I am good with it.

That looks like a BIG DOG! Glad you picked him up.

Well, maybe things have changed since I was a part of the GSDCA, but many ASL breeders looked down their noses on German lines, as well as those with German lines looking down on ASL. It was difficult for am show lines x with german bred lines to win in the show ring. I personally think the mix is great and it is always something I wanted to do when I co-owned an AMSL male with a well known breeder who felt the same way I did about the bottlenecked lines. One breed going in so many directions, and categories of the same breed being bred only to the same categories, in our opinion, did not bode well for the breed. Nothing like dividing up an already small gene pool :(  We co-owned Windswept-Utopia's Manzanita, Ch Meet Joe Black's brother. We never were able to follow our dream, though, as life got in the way and Missie T developed DM... :( However, it would have thrilled me, if we ever did get to do that breeding and the progeny came out resembling this dog. IMHO, a perfect happy medium..
