One more thing.....for the WDA/SV requirements it had a whole 7 point section on the ID plate for the x-rays. I asked the vet to include all the information they listed and he said they do not use ID plates with digital x-rays? It says the SV will not accept the x-rays without the ID plates so what should I do? Will xray express somehow make ID Plates???

Hi Smiley!

Well, like others, I think they look pretty good, but in MY opinion (which is JUST that, MINE) I personally would've liked to have seen a tighter ball fit on the right side (picture, or Left side of actual hip) in the socket area. STILL, I think she will likely get a Good!

Good lookin' girl with good lookin' hips! I know NOTHING about elbows, so that I'll leave for others to comment.

by hexe on 25 May 2012 - 21:05

Smiley, it's typical to have lots of views for x-ray posts without much comment, because a lot of folks like to look at the films but don't feel confident in their ability to understand what they're seeing (sound familiar?).  Ditto as to why your vet didn't tell you anything, too--some vets prefer to let OFA make the call, rather than risk looking foolish if they call a sound dog dysplastic, or vice-versa.  After all, reading radiographs is a skill, and some folks just plain aren't very good at it, even if they are vets (or MDs, for that matter). They look to be pretty darn nice shots, with good positioning, though, so whoever took them did a good job.

To my eye, both the hips and the elbows look sound.  Not going to speculate as to what the OFA hip rating will be, save to say that it WON'T be any grade of dysplasia, and the elbows will be normal.  Yeah, ideally I suppose there could be a bit more coverage of the femoral heads, but sound is sound--you either are, or you aren't.  Doesn't look like she's got transitional vertebrae, either, which is something you'd rather not see, so that's also good.

Nice, is this girl l or 2 years old?  Either way, they look good to me;  however, if I could fault them I would like to see the socket's a little deeper but I don't think this would affect this bitch.  BOL  Nan

Smiley:  maybe your not cut out for this?

Sorry guys for delay. I had to take her out for a quick walk before dinner....she is not the type of dog that does well when she misses her walk (or shall I say crazy woman fly all over the place hike)!

Thanks to DDR, Hexe and Nans for the additional opinions.  Very mcuh appreciated!!

Hexe..what is transitional vertebrae?

Nans..she is 1. I have been dreading the x-rays as she has been tearing around on daily hikes like a madwoman since I satrted taking her on them as a puppy. She jumps 6 foot wide streams over and over again just for fun. When I brought her to a state forest a few days ago she took off and jumped on all 7 picinic tables at the park area (yikes....I better work on that) like it was a special doggie course set up just for her. She clears stone walls and jumps and climbs up steep rocks just because she can. Once, she tried to actually scale the side of a 20+ foot boulder. Seriously. I am not kidding. No, seriously. So, I have been imagining the worst as all I read is "don't let your young dog do too much". I cringe everytime she jumps stuff like that but on a postive note.....my agility instructor thinks she will MACH!!!  It translates over and she has had zero fear of wobble board, high seesaw, high doggie walk, tunnels, you name it. She did the A frame once by accident when I turned my back to get her water bowl out.  We can't do jumps, weave poles, or A -frame as my instructor says too young. So, I just hope her hips and elbows will pass...

She passed her Cardiac today and has OFA numbers for DM (normal) and Full Dentition and CHIC DNA Repository.

Nans..OMG....I can foal horses (have seen the worst and cull when I need too); I "whelped" a 5 year old son who is an amazing child; but....dare I say....wait patiently for medical results for my dog and hold it together...I DON'T THINK SO!!!!! YIKES!!! LOL

Thanks, Kennel!!

Oh, FYI- I e-mailed WDA after I posted here about the ID plates and the TX place will add them when they do the conversions. Just in case anyone else is wondering. On another note, I have to say that the lady at WDA has been SO helpful! Very pleased with her prompt responses.
