I think the personality of the dogs is more important than gender or whether they are neutered or not.  If one or both of your dogs is more submissive then there will be little or no problem.  I've had two males for years.  First I had two that were neutered and 4 or 5 years apart in age.  The younger was always submissive to the older one and there was never an issue.  Now I have a 9 1/2 year old neutered male and an 11-month old intact male.  The younger pup respects and submits to the older dog and there are no problems.  They eat in the same room at the same time.  If I start to see the younger dog challenging the older, they'll be separated.

I agree with Felloffher. The types of dogs you have makes a huge difference. I have never been able to keep 2 of my males together or 2 of my females together (unless mother and daughter). After seeing how bad a fight can really be, I will never take that chance again. Territorial dogs or "Alpha" whatever you want to call it, will always be looking for their chance to be top dog.

We feed our dogs together just like the picture above.  We also walk them together.  They also get bones several times a week and there is never a fight for food or bones.  I feel I have a relaxed happy group of dogs.  They are separated during heat cycles and when we are gone, but that is for prevention of "naughty things" they might do.

For everyone that feeds their dogs together and it works.. they are your dogs and you do what you want.

Me?  I don't want to give Mr. Murphy (of Murphy's Law fame) the edge.  Nothing to do with experience.

Dogs can get along for years and then one day... well.. something happens... and all heck busts loose.  Why invite the opportunity?

It is far easier to prevent problems than to clean up after.  Prevention is 9/10ths of the cure.

Males have a better history of getting along.  Females can get along and then one day NOT and they will fight to the death.  It is said that males fight for Breeding rights.  Females fight for BREATHING rights.

Anyway.. the OP has a LOT to think about if they are still reading this.

14 yrs campaigning GSPs (field trials) 15 yrs personal protection work, Kennel owner/operator 40 yrs and obedience through it all just a tad short of 50 yrs and still working dogs.

I would never tell anybody how they should handle their dogs as it's a personal choice thing and frankly since they're not my dogs to worry about it's not a big deal to me.

My personal choice would be to take the Rass's Murphy's Law advice seriously as I have followed the old school rule that if a dog has teeth strange things can happen.
