Kalibeck

by Kalibeck on 25 September 2011 - 19:09

Carl is home here with me now, thank goodness, & he is aware of the conflict & supports my asking for advise. Carl was getting, how can I phrase this??, kind of a pridefull kick out of how determined his girl was to be his & only his, until he realized that she was actually trying to knock me down. Then he grew concerned as well. And apparently the little bitch is mad at him, too! She turned her back on him when he used his walker to approach her crate to talk to her. She doesn't want him talking, she wants him outside, with her. It'll 6 weeks or so before Carl can work her again, so Bitty & I must find a solution.

And I won't leave a pinch on 24/7, I'd be too afraid of it catching on something & hanging her. No, she'll have to tolerate me putting it on, & taking it off, with the link out of it as well, LOL, I had it the way Carl used it, he wouldn't use it nice & snug the way I like it. My big 90# male Beckett, won't pull me or disrespect me, LOL, he's actually met Jesus in the past, & is a now a true believer!

BTW, Carl does not use the computer. He's as stubborn as his bitch in that regard. I have to do all of his cyber-correspondence for him. He's old school about that.

So, I hope that cleared up a few of the issues. My first responce was to be gentle, offer treats, be sweet with her, until I realized that she was making me her 'mark'! I've had a few dog related injuries, & I do not feel like being drug around the driveway & yard. After all, I need to care for Carl, & I need to go back to work, now that he's doing a little better. I can't afford to be laid up, for Carl's sake, my sake, & the dog's sakes as well.

So, I need to figure out a way to make Bitty mind me, with out ruining the spunky personality that Carl loves. I have no desire to 'break' her, but we'll be using the newly tightened pinch next time out. And we'll be having a nice long run. Then we'll see how snarky she is with me.

In about another week, Carl can start being around her a little more, but while he still has to have 28 staples to hold his leg incision closed, I can't risk a missplaced claw tearing that incision open.

Thanks for all the replies! I have to run some errands, I'll be back for your ideas before I take Bitty out this evening. jackie harris

I would also be sure this bitch gets about a 5 mile run every other day before she goes to work for you.  That will probably help settle her down somewhat, engage the brain, now proceed ahead.  Best of luck, boy is she a daddy's girl.  Little b----.  Nan

Jackie We have gone through the same sort of issue here.  I had major surgery almost 6 weeks ago and am unable to walk - and will be for a bit longer.  I am the one who trains and cares for the dogs, now for the senior GSD she could care less who cares for her as she is very fickle,my husbands JRT is thrilled as I cannot bother her - she has taken my side of the bed over and growls if I even dare to roll by.  Now I have worked with and cared for my personal protection dog since he was 12 weeks old,he tolerates my husband but since I am not able to continue his daily routine he has decided to become a hellion paying no attention to my husband.  The Mal girls just blow him off and totally disreguard any thing he says.  He has had to really get their attention which has worked to a degree. Now Fyre the GSD will work wih anyone she is a good girl and my new GSD girl has only known my husband since she arrived and she worships him.

Here the GSD's are easy to deal with but these naughty Mals are a different story.

Judy, Sue, & all the other walking(or rolling) wounded out there, thanks for your suggestions from your own experience! And thanks to everyone else, I am grateful for your input! So we will try an extended run before anything else, & see if that takes the spice out of her! She actually seemed excited to see me when I got home from my errands. Of course, I was carrying her dog food, LOL! So we shall see. I'll update y'all on how it goes. Thanks again, jackie harris

OK---here's an update for everyone....I made dinner & laid down to rest for a quick minute, since I haven't been sleeping, & of course I passed out! I was awakened by a racket of pans clanging, doors slamming, dogs barking.....here Carl decided to take things back under his own control, got out of bed, took his walker, fed Bitty, hooked her up & took her outside, all by himself. And of course, she was an angel for him! I don't know that he's ever taught her any commands, any training per se, but she behaves for him. She walks along next to him, sits next to him, & lays down when he sits....& she did it as usual, no muss, no fuss. Go figure. Didn't give a crap about the walker, was as polite as she could possibly be. Go fricking figure! LMAO! I guess I'm the stooge! jackie harris

She knew what she was doing and what was gonna happen..

She got CARL out of bed and he forgot his hurts and his worries and he attended to his baby/

OK-here's a funny update on our angry Lil' Bitty bitch. She's been as good as gold since Carl's been by her side again, until last night. Now I've been under the weather for almost a week now, mostly doing a lot of nothing. I wandered into the kitchen yesterday while Carl was outside playing with the leaf blowing thingy (we live in a forest, blowing leaves is totally futile!). Lil' Bit came running up to me, rolling her eyes & lolling her tongue. She then lifted her head & her tail straight up, barked at me, then started her 'bark & hold' in the middle of the kitchen, snapping her teeth, banging her front feet, & all! I'm so not afraid of her, I started to laugh, which made me start coughing, which made me have to grab the box of tissues. At my movement she broke & ran, racing all over the house like a wacko, crashing into things, skidding out on the hardwood floors (leaving nice scratch marks, too!). She screeched to a halt right in front of me again when I had to blow my nose, barked & snapped a couple more times, then threw herself down on the floor & rolled onto her back, feet flying...kind of squirmed around there for a minute, then rolled back over & laid there grinning up at me, like I had just been made the butt of some crazy joke!!

WTF?

Geez--I SO wish I could read her mind! I just love her little spunky self, but I'm pretty sure she laughs at me!

Pinch Collar is only going to make things worse in my opinion.

Just in case you go through this again.
