DAk,

I think you are just trying to stir the pot here. Why do you want to breed mongrels???. If you like CZEch dog s why do you go in for a pure czech line. Obviously there must be missing something in czech lines to just take one czech bitch and breed it to such heavy WG lines?  WHy pose this question in the first place? Keep your choices simple. All czech breeders are breeding to the latest WG dogs out there the so called hot commodities to improve their lines.  THe breeder in question could have taken a strong WG bitch and maintained the bloodline. As to why I don;t like CZECH lines you can search on this baord and go through old duels I have had and the bashing I have taken on this baord for openly speaking my views

good luck

I have obviously hit a sensitive subject. I am not trying to stir any pot, I simply asked. I thank you for your insight.

Cheers

If you want to get the best from a breeding with the line breeding you show, Much like my Hektor but he is a little more closer line bred overall to certain dogs,
I would myself Mate to another Dog which in its self is from a line bred family,
You are going for a complete outcross with the Blood you are looking at. You will not be doing the line above much favours in the chance of enhancing the bloodline
If you Line Breed you then mate that line bred Dog to another dog which is also a product of a line bred family Not a complete cross if you get my meaning for me if you go ahead then you will lose the value of the Line breeding
I will go further when you Line Breed a family You are doing it to try and Fix the Good Qualities of the ancestors namely a certain Dog in the Pedigree, Now you can Line breed for many generations lets say it is a male so therefore you are line breeding to the Paternal line, The Females you bring in are in effect Crosses, But not the same as the way you have mentioned above
The Females you bring in are Crosses but from another LINE BRED Family and not a product of a Cross that is the huge difference, Now these females are for a start no way related to the male in the first 5 generations after that it does not matter if a dog or dogs figure in the breeding

A czech dog is a German Shepherd, A german dog is a German Shepherd, A showline dog is a German Shepherd, a good breeder breeds for strength and balance while trying to maintain enough genetic diversity to not be pigeonholed into a type. Some lines/types over the years have developed extremes in certain areas that appeal to different venues. Show people look for different strengths than sport people who look for different strengths than herding people, who look for different strengths, than Law Enforcement. Hopefully, the dogs in all lines have good nerves so that the dog is capable of working as designed. But balance is the key to German Shepherd breeding, and if you do not have genetic diversity, eventually, you will go out of balance and into extremes at the price of something else suffering in the line. So to not go out of your lines if you need genetic diversity, and can pick it up still maintaining the working qualities is asinine and the words of an intellectual breeder.(Whatever that is).JMO

My above post is not in response to any other post, it is a general guide to breeding German Shepherds. Linebreeding is a fabulous tool to set type, but at some point you must open up lines. Right now, I look closely at pedigrees and will not breed to a dog that has to much Troll/Timmy v NBST. I think that is saturated at present and needs some balance. For some people they would have everyline leading to Troll/Timmy....but just as happened with showlines, if you don't open up there will be problems. They won't be the same problems as Canto/Quanto, but there will still be negative extremes, that start to show up, becausethere is to much because of imbalance. Genetics doesn't give a shit about what titles the dogs has or the infatuation people have in the dog.

A litter of high-drive working pups you would never be tempted to lead into a show ring in broad daylight.

Gustav
By mating two Linebred Dogs together you already have a more fixed characteristics than mating a Line bred Dog to one which is a cross but already a product of cross breeding, This way you will weaken and eliminate all the good points of the Line bred side in a short time, By mating two different lines of two Dogs in which themselves are of line bred families you are also introducing a cross but an hybrid cross better than a Line bred dog to an already out crossed dog.
The Cross of the line bred families will automatically introduce a shot in the arm and vigour into the Pups, It is fact that if you breed on a Line bred Family whether it be the Paternal or the Maternal line. mostly the lines are based on the Maternal line and Top females from line bred families are bought in never another Dog of the Paternal line. WE assume all is well with Joints etc otherwise the dog would not be considered. I hope the OP does not mind but i have put Hektors pedigree on here so he can see they have a similar pattern, This Pedigree is also on the Tom thread

The problem is when you have an intensely linebred dog you DO have more intensely fixed traits....Good and Bad!! Unfortunately, there is no dog that does not carry negative recessives that become expotientally stronger when linebred. The pedigree of Hektor is a very nice strong linebred pedigree. Thanks!
