Dogs will gain and lose muscle mass surprisingly quickly depending on the quantity/quality of the exercise & food they get. But they ain't gonna put on muscle mass if they aint doing any exercise - regardless of how much protein you give them. I always find the best exercise is just to let the dog be a dog and feed it like a dog - eggs, beef heart, raw chicken and (especially imo) tripe are all great protein sources for hounds.

An off leash walk twice a day, every day rain or shine mind, where the dog does it's own thing, trotting, sudden sprints, sudden stops, recalls, quick changes of direction, jumping and clambering over & under fences, stick chasing & fighting etc etc. 'Ol Nelson probably covers an easy 6 miles or so a day going back & forth doing this and I suppose I'm lucky having the country side close by with plenty of rabbits and other critters where this sort of exercise is easy.

Combine this with good food (not too much mind) and the hound will soon have cardio vascular endurance and be as dry and firm as their genetics allow. The GSD is a medium sized dog and shouldn't be some muscle bound brute - think athlete rather than body builder, welter weight rather than cruiser weight or tight end rather than offensive lineman.

Im goign to try some of the K9Power supplements soon.  Right now I have started running at night with both dogs.  I see why Caesar Milan uses roller blades.  Damn dogs were pulling me and I see I need better cardio. LOL!  I kept it short (10-15) min run/jog.  I will continue this for 2 weeks and then up it to 20-25 minutes.

K9 Super Fuel looks like something to try for sure.

I could use some muscle  and endurance building. I live in Texas and temp. normally around 100. Started riding the bike at nite and jogging in the morning before the heat starts. Jogging is not fair to my dog as I cant keep up without my bike. Gotta few rivers and ponds to go to but ticks getting really bad this summer. I like running hills. Just throw her tennis ball up the hill and she makes a mad dash to get it. Also I get her to sprint about 20 or 30 yards.

lol!!
I look like I'm in shape but my cardio is terrible.  I don't work out as Im working all day and im too lazy and tired to hit the guy.  Damn dogs are forcing me at least run.

When I stop, they stop...lol  I will put them on K9 Super Fuel soon and find ways to build the endurance without me passing out in the process.  Here in AZ I can only exercise at night and even then its like 80 degrees.

If i bring Gina Bitch over and you start running she will soon be chewing at your arse, you will not need any k9 super fuel to keep going and you will have your cardio tested to the full.  She is no LADY

Go to workingdogforum.com and look at what Anna has made. She has an injured dog, and she has built a treadmill in a tub sorta deal. She posted a vid of one of the dogs who had never been in it, and it looked like it was working out pretty good. You could have that in your garage.
