LOL Uber, Segal got these dogs to watch over his wife... he couldn't as he is too busy trying to climb on the babysitter.

There have been a lot of dogs sold for mega bucks, if a person has the desire and the $$, then I say more power to them. Some of us myself included will never have the $$ to indulge ourselves , but that doesn't mean we wouldn't if we could afford to. I don't find it hard to believe that AzureBlue purchased the dogs for the amount stated. Why would she post it if it were not true? It wouldn't make sense to try and impress people that you don't know especially if they don't know you either. I don't know about the rest of you guys but I don't have the need to impress people that I know, much less the ones I don't know.

What should a strong, highly trained dog go for?  IMO, $20,000 is reasonable for a good well trained dog.  We spend $6,500 to $7,000 for a green dog for police work.  Then we spend months training the dog.  What do you think these dogs are worth when we finish training them?  What do you think is spent in time, salaries, care, equipment, etc.  I would think a well trained PPD has similar time and training invested.  We have easily more than $20,000 invested in our dogs just through the training, not including the initial cost.

Any one that knows what goes into training a real dog that will actually defend it's owner would understand the cost.  The ones that don't get it, probably never will.

It goes to the old saying. If you have to ask how much you probably can't afford it. $20,000 isn't as much to some as it is to others, & if it's there earned money who are you to tell them how to spend it  Be mad at yourself for not making that kind of money lmao

I'm not jealous of the person who spent that kind of money for one, or even two dogs.  There are companies out there charging a lot more for a PPD than ten thousand, and getting it too.  If you have the money to spend, and you find a dog you like, then by all means, pay whatever you want.  It just seems to me that paying ten grand for a dog that will only live for another eight to ten years after you spend all that money, is crazy.  Yes, I know there are folks out there spending hundreds of thousands of dollars for the top VA dogs, as someone stated, nearing the end of their breeding life, but hey, it comes back to the money, doesn't it?

As for the value of a fully trained protection dog, there is a lot of time and money invested, that I understand completely.  You make a valid point, Jim, on the value of a K9 that's fully trained.  Of course, though, the K9 also has a highly trained handler (hopefully, anyway).

Bottom line for staying alive is, stay alert, utilize all the tools available to you, (dog, gun, baseball bat), and be prepared to defend yourself.

hey, if you got it, flaunt it.

some of those people spending 100,000's on VA dogs have also lost that money, dogs are sold sterile, poor breeders, low sperm counts ect.

Yes Uber I kinda agree you can google it and watch both his dogs with 2 trainers the black one is KAR. Dont recall the other ones name. I would not pay $65K for both of them let alone one dog. But money talks and bullshit walks. They even did muzzle bite work where both dogs dropped the guy to the floor with their muzzles on. Stevens handler techniques leave a little to be desired.

I think peoples definition of a ppd is different to.
Mine

1) Alert on command
2) Send out for a bite on command
3) Distract you while I aim

If the dog does his job he's worth it

I saw that episode with Segal and the dogs. Dogs looked like they needed more training as they didn't always listen to his commands the first or second time. For that price they need to be spot on and should only be told once. I guess no amount is crazy b/c there is always someone willing to spend the money. As long as the dog performs as advertised then money well spent. Also suggest taking trainer with u to work the dog to make sure as well. Can a person find a PPD dog for less...of course. Jinopo, Hans and Eurosprt are some examples who can be a little cheaper depending on the dog and what u are looking for as well. As long as your happy that is all that matters. There are too many threads about this though.
