Ace,
Your pup looks black but I can see what you are talking about with the undercoat. I'm not sure. It really doesn't look sable to me, it looks more like black with a light undercoat ( which does occasionally happen). There was a girl on here not that long ago who posted a picture of a puppy that had very odd coloring also. Almost a "seal" color. The puppies that I've had that were black all had a reddish hue right before their puppy coat started really coming out. Maybe the beginning of puppy molting?? None of mine finished before they were 4-5 months old.
Yogi,
From my observations the patterned sable dog has a sable saddle instead of a solid black one, usually occuring when the dog carries B&T recessively. I have not actually seen a patterned sable that did not carry B&T.
Your girl could be out of 2 sables if they both carried B&T. Sometimes it's really difficult to tell by pictures a B&T and patterned sable.

Mudwick,
Ace's "middle child" doesn't look like a B&T to me. The little bit does and the older dog looks to be a melanistic B&T.

I'm so lost.
Which dog are we questioning as a possible sable.
I saw a black, and a B&T with a strong saddle.

These are my 3 sables. The male I call a dark sable. The youngest female is a black sable. And the light girl is just a sable to me. .jpg)

What kind of sable would you think Koda (the dog in the pictures above) would be? A gray sable?

What's wrong with her nose?

I would say Koda is a grey sable.
Look real close at the black puppy in Ace's post. The last picture shows (barely) a lighter undercoat.

Might I add that it's really nice to have an informative, educational thread for a change.

I just don't see it.
Need a better pic.
Lets try a different approach- what makes YOU think it might be a sable, Ace?
