ALL DOG FOOD SITES HAVE A "FIND RETAILER NEAR YOU" LINK AND YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED THE PLACES THAT DO SELL THE QUALITY DOG FOOD.  NORMALLY  YOUR SMALLER PET STORES OR FEED JOINTS.

Six cups seems like a lot but I think Science Diet does recommend quite a bit more than some others. Most of the dogs I work with that are on Science Diet are a bit chunky.

Probably because you need to feed more with all that SAWDUST in it...or did you not bother to read the link I posted??

What the heck is that attitude for (or did you not bother to read the link...)?  Or course I read the post, and I'm politely agreeing with you and your opinion; have been all along.   Perhaps my politeness made my meaning too subtle, or there is some percieved inflection in my sentences that was not intended?

I have cut the food to 4 cups a day. wait and see, for now will stay on Blue Buffalo

I am not joking, but the nearest store that sells taste of wild is 70 miles away.

thanks all of you, your comments helped me a lot.

Blue Buffalo now has a few new formulas, including two that are specifically for sensitive dogs.  They are limited ingredient formulas, maybe one of those might work for your dog?  I tried BB for a while and was unable to get anything better than mushy stool from my dogs.  I like the company and now that they have a couple of simple formulas, I will try them again.
Petsmart also has Castor & Pollux, which is a very good and healthy brand.  They have regular formulas and an organic one.  This is a small company based in Oregon.  Good ingredients, good reviews.
Of the bigger named companies that they sell at Petsmart, I like Royal Canin over Science Diet and Eukanuba.
BUT...if you really want to stick with Science Diet or Eukanuba...I acutally might be the only one that thinks SD is better.  They have "fixed" formulas (which means they never vary in ingredients from batch to batch) and they use some of the highest levels of antioxidants and vitamins of any food.  Additionally, they keep their calcium, phosphorous and ash levels very low which is good for your pets.

Spyla,

Now just make sure to watch your dogs weight. If you see it getting too thin add a little more to the feedings. If you see the dog starting to fill out too much, cut back a little. You would be suprised what 1/2 cup difference can do. If your dog has a bout of diarrhea then give the stomach a break and don't feed fro 12-24 hours. It won't kill your dog. Try to keep the spacing of your feedings around 12 hours, this will maximize the digestion and help keep any stomach acids from building up too much and will minimize any bile throw up. Good luck.

I have to agree with Steph...The Dick van Pattens Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish dog food is hands down the best kibble I have ever seen...And when our finances settle a bit, I fully intend to put Oakley back on it.  The stools are small, the volume the dog needs is so much less, and the wonderful part of it is...their poo doesn't stink!!  It's firm, and easy to clean up, coats are shiny and beautiful, and there are so many other benefits that I can't list them all.

There's no way I would feed Science Death..excuse me, Diet.  Any dog food that is made up of sawdust is completely worthless, and they should be paying you to take it, not charging you an arm and a leg for it.  Our local animal shelter also sells SD, and I laughed out loud when I read the price tags on those bags...I can go to Pampurred Pets, a local pet store, and get DVP dog food for 51.99 for 28 lbs (I think it was, or maybe 32 Ibs), and the Sawdust Diet dog food, for 40 pounds, was at or higher than that, depending on the 'formula'.  Why would I want to pay for sawdust dog food, when we work in the timber industry, and can have sawdust for free?  I can go over to Spokane, to Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) and get the same vitamin/mineral packs that these guys use in their food, mix up some cooked, ground up roadkill, and mix in a healthy serving of sawdust, all for less than the price of a small bag of Sawdust Diet.  No thanks.

My preference is raw, followed by DVP NB Sweet Potato and Fish formula, and then the Costco Kirkland Signatures Chicken or Lamb and Rice dog food...No corn in them, still smaller stools, but smells a bit more.

Food is something that veterinarians ought to educate their dog owning clients about...I know that medicine is their specialty, but since diet and health go hand in hand, I think vets should know more than they do.

Just my opinon, for what little it's worth.

Crys
