Service dogs can and do come from working line litters.

Example: My very first litter was by a czech/slovak stud by a wg working line/wg show line with a touch of DDR thrown in for
good measure. There were 9 puppies. 2 are currently K9s, the one I kept back could have easily been a K9, and 4 other
males could have easily been K9s. If I knew then what I knew now, I would have kept a few more back. Now, one of those
males is a service dog for a severly autistic boy. Having said that, his owners dabbled in PSA and the sheriffs office offered
them $9000 for this dog, which they turned down. Max could do it all!! There is no reason why a clear headed, driven dog
can not be a service dog! This dog is a perfect example of that. Max follows his boy around, puts his head in the boys lap
while he's playing video games and "takes care" of his boy. The boy's parents have fun with the dog too, doing what they
like as well.

In the future, I would look for hip/elbow DM at a minimum before you breed again.

Great story Melissa . This is what I am striving for, well balanced dog. Yes, if I ever adventure into breeding again, I will definitely do addition joint testing.

Did anyone else catch that this is an Aunt/Nephew breeding?
Personally I would not breed to a dog with this close of line-breeding without really knowing well the dogs they were linebred on.

Fawndallas, why did you chose this particular stud dog?  He must have some qualities that you like. :) I'm not familiar with the dogs in this pedigree at all so perhaps I can learn something.  We all start somewhere.

I agree Melissa.

I have a service dog in Washington state out of my second litter I bred from high working lines. The man who bought my gorgeous blk/rd boy , was in Schutzhund and he was a K9 trainer in the US army.

Many of them I do not see eye to eye, but this man raised Zeke and sold him to a lady with an Autistic boy who had not spoken one word at 4 yrs old until she took Zeke.

I will try to get some pics as I have not heard from them in two years.. Time for Ganny to check on things..

YES, FAWN, you are doing things exactly  correct....I am proud of you...YOur little fiesty male may be ok too..

Don't second guess just yet...calm dogs do not always  make a good service dog...they sometimes have fears not seen until 5 =10 months old...so do not count out mr Alpha...

I chose this stud: He was registered. He had a previous proven litter of healthy well balanced puppies. I got to talk to their owners. The owner had no problem allowing me in their home and around their dogs. The owner cared as much for him as I do for Rose. They were not in it for the money or a free dog. I only compensated for their time and part of the vet testing fees. The owner had no issue with having full blood test and X-rays done on the stud. We both made same mistake by thinking vet's ok on joints was enough though. His temperament was very close to Rose with a hair more assertiveness. Rose is my dream dog, but I do wish she had an ounce of alpha. She is omega in every way, not neurotic about it though. (since she got pregnant I have seen more alpha, but I would not stake my life on her protecting me in a bad situation. I have my male GSD for that and maybe a puppy with proper training). ------------------- Looks like some of his assertiveness has come through on the pups... Which is a good thing.
