Actually I was thinking about how Jackie might feel reading about all the bad things that could happen to her due to the chemo. She many not need to be reminded. Just trying to keep it positive, that's all.

Jackie, I am so glad you are feeling better!

As for the dogs it is quite perplexing as to why your doctor doesnt want you in contact with them. My mom was never restricted. She always had dogs around her, between my dogs and my sister's dog. They all spent a lot of time in her room too. She did get one yeast infection during the 7 years she was receiving chemo and it was easily treatable. Also, I was asked recently to do pet therapy for patients in a cancer treatment facility, so how great of a risk can exposure to a dog be? If it were me, I would probsbly put on a mask and love on those dogs. Just wash your hands afterwards and if you are really concerened, change your clothes!

Sending lots of hugs!
Char

They told me to limit my contact, that was it, & Carl has taken over most of the daily responsibilities, but as I said I spend time with them, had them out to groom them the other day when Ansgar decided she should remove my port; I just couldn't not have ANY contact....
but I've also had several BIG injuries, & multiple scrapes, cuts, & tears, & they want NONE of that while I'm their patient, hence the pronouncement. Remember, my onc's nurse is a personal friend of mine who only too clearly recalls me coming to work with the sheepish grin. & my latest 'oops' with my dogs from Schutzhund training, which we don't even do anymore, lol! ( I always had a cut or scrape to show off, & my other girlfriend there also had GSDs, so we were always comparing our scars, lol!!)
so I got a fairly stern, "Now you let Carl take care of those dogs!" Which he heard...& you all know Carl by now, too! jackie harris

But I sit & talk to them, & after Carl has taken the edge off with a walk I can play with them, throw the kong, or Beckett's stick. Lil' Bit is & has been Carl's girl, I'm not changing that, either. Carl is convinced they will jump on me, knock me down, run me over, etc, etc...even tho' my dogs are mostly old farts now, not the high energy pups they once were.
as far as the dangers of chemo, I got to hear all of that stuff at the onc's office from my buddy, chemo teaching, lol! And again from the infusion nurses! So don't worry, it doesn't blow my mind. The ACS stats are far more sobering. I so love you all, Hexe, Sunsilver, StarrChar, Blitzen, Jan, & Susie; & Abby, & everyone else for helping keep my chin up! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I hope someday I can do as Travels did & come & visit each one to say thanks in person!
BTW- the hair started coming out a little more, so I caught a wild hair the other night & shaved it off. ( With my husbands 1/2" ear trimmer! lol!) I kept thinking, "What if I have an appt & abig clump comes out in the shower?" Now I don't have to worry, but it's COLD! I never thought about that! Where's those hotflashes when you red them?

I HATE when I get cut off! Any way, thanks again, & love you all!

(ps...I think they think everyone keeps their dog in a muddy back yard or something! They have no idea how pampered my pooches are! Lol!)
pps---tomorrow I get fitted for radiation, get my ' mold' & my tattoos. More fun! And it looks like I may get to 'ride' the linear accelerator after all, instead of broad beam radiation. That's better for the rest of my organs! I'm going to wear my radiation t-shirt....
well of course tonight I can't seem to upload a picture, oh well, it has a huge burn mark right in the middle of the logo, I think it's funny, anyway, lol!

Hey Jackie, Now I understand better :) By the way, I have no doubt your pooches are pampered!

As for you hair, losing it can be very emotional. It was hard for my mom, so I took her to get a nice wig. There are some great looking wigs out there for reasonable prices. It never hurts to go and try a few on. They keep your head nice and warm too:) Im sure your oncology office can recommend a place.

I will be thinking of you today. I look forward to seeing those photos too. I love your attitude and that you are able find humor in things like the burn mark :) You continue to inspire me. Xxxxxx

These dogs can be rough on us sometimes. I'll bet there is no one reading this who hasn't suffered from a dog related injury. One resulted in a trip to the ER for me! No doubt in my mind that my dog would also try to remove a port, she is one of those dogs that sniffs us from head to toe many times a day so that would be something that would interest her. We call her Dr. B Teeth Smile.

Keep the faith.................

I once had a patient with a broken leg. His Golden retriever tripped him as he was on the way to answer the door!  Teeth Smile

Stay safe!

There's a lady in our church who's undergoing chemo. The only reason I know she lost her hair is she came to church wearing a turban one Sunday. The next time she came she was wearing a wig. IT HAD to be a wig, but I kept staring at it and staring at it, and could see absolutely NO tell-tale signs of wigness! It looked TOTALLY natural!

A friend of mine used to hate those turbans they gave breast cancer patients (they were always PINK, a colour she hated) She tossed it at a friend of hers who did embroidery, and said, "Here. I want you to embroider "F**K CANCER" on this. THEN maybe I'll wear it!"  Omg Smile

Can you believe it? They had me come in---over an hours drive each direction---to tell me they were changing my appointment.
