Why not do some research on other dog breeds for example the Dogo Espanol is a small dog which can do personal protection, it is very loyal, athletic and healthy. It is good with people as well so they are not overly aggressive. However it is a relatively new breed so to find a breeder would be quite hard if you want i can give you some more information
