Can't really see anyone recommending some of the posts written on PDB, however well translated into German FROM English, and whoever they are written by, to German newbies.

Susie Thank you for bringing to light that article was written 20 tears ago .. I did not realize that fact.
Susie 20 to 15 years ago , I used to have conversations with people on this topic, experienced people at that . My position was that the GS should get back to a unified breed . I stated at that time the genetics where there in SL and WL and that the possibility for that to occur existed. 15 years a go I had a SL X WL with high/ super V structure and the most wonderful working traits/attributes one would want in a GS . The High End, big time kennel owners , serious Germans saw this dog and wanted this dog !! But in my life I never ever sold a dog that was once mine.
In the USA , many people gave me hell for putting forth this idea. The belittled me .. and scoffed at me. They claimed that this was not possible . For years I preached unification. So , all that I could say : to each their own ideas. Now I would think anyone that knows and has a LOT of experience with the SL can see that over the decades the genetics have become so diluted . When I write that the GS can be a considered a subset, this is not simply my opinion . I would never put forth an idea like this because I simply feel this way . Susie I want you and every one else to realize that even the most important breeders in the world , in Europe , not only Germany, that I in my experience I interact with , now have this sentiment : to late to merge SL & WL .
So an article written 20 years ago is not worth talking about as applicable to current day . We need facts and figures for current day to discuss current day GS. So , knowing this is 20 years past ... now even I better understand what I wrote . No wonder I was not impressed with the article.

Gustav .. I agree with you .. how I wish that could be so .. And I hope that you are right and those that have convinced me that it is to late are incorrect :-) . But this is hard for me to debate now . I try to plug that it can happen . I talk to the most informed , but it is hard for to have a rebuttal . For they are the ones that give lectures on the GS and about breeding. They are*** THE most knowledgeable people in the world in this respect , I have no leg to stand on in this topic now if they say time has past..

Won't be, can't be - otherwise we need to talk about potty training, dog parks, and destroy Ing Furniere only.
I don't know why you call Walter's post "vague" - the statistics are simple and easy to follow?!? They are facts.

Sorry but I found the whole article disjointed and confusing, hard to follow. If I do that, given decades in GSDs, and years reading on this board, what is a beginner meant to make of it ?

Hundmutter, I don’t get how you as an experienced person in the breed, can speak for the newbies in the breed. What is to stop the newbie from doing further research🤔, anyway, if the information is mostly factual then in time if they stay with the breed they will understand the breed better. How often have we had an opinion on here based on likes or misinformation, become refuted when the facts were presented...is this good for the newbie?
Furthermore, the article was Not written in the evening newspaper but in the GERMAN SHEPHERD magazine....I would think that IS the place to write such an article......you really have me confused with this newbie stuff.
