My stud is DNA'd and he's not an import. He was born here, AKC registered, and DNA'd here before he was ever bred. DNA is not just re-done on imported dogs already DNA'd in other countries.

The greatest advantage to frozen sperm AI is the possibility of utilizing a stud dog long dead.

the problem with frozen semen in a lot of breeds is it becomes antiquated by virtue of the fact new genetic tests are developed and though some DNA tests can test semen a lot of people don't want to use it for that,in cases of autosomal recssive you are limited to breeding to clears if the sire has an unknown status etc etc yada yada yada

True, Panzer, but given that most German dogs aren't health tested for anything other than hips and elbows, maybe DM, which few GSD breeders seem to think it a necessary test anyway, I'm not sure that would be a big factor in this breed now. Maybe 20 years in the future? If the SV won't allow the use of fresh chilled, I don't see any chance that they will approve frozen from deceased dogs any time soon.

FROZEN AND CHILLED SEMEN DNA REQUIREMENTS
The AKC Board of Directors has modified the policy dealing with the use of fresh-extended and frozen semen as follows:
- After October 1, 1998, AKC DNA Profiling is required for all stud dogs whose semen is collected for fresh extended or frozen use, including foreign stud dogs collected for imported semen use in the United States.
- The intent of this requirement is to include all semen collected for storage and/or shipment for the purpose of artificial insemination, but not to include artificial insemination where the dog and bitch are both present.
- Frozen semen collected and stored prior to October 1, 1998 in accordance with AKC's regulations and procedures is exempted from this requirement.
- Cheek swab samples must be obtained by the collector and submitted with the notification of collection to AKC (if the DNA sample is not already on file with AKC).
- DNA processing expenses are paid by the owner at a set fee (currently $50 or prepaid only $45; Prepaid DNA test kits are nonrefundable). An AKC DNA Genotype with the DNA Profile and Number is issued to the owner.
Additional information is available by contacting AKC DNA Operations.
