Thanks, I heard about these obscene rules after I took up the job.! But I will be staying in a city without these rules...so hopefully the problem is solved. While I dont like Las Vegas per se, the surroundings are quite beautiful. It could be an easy drive to Phoenix, if you hold your seminar!

Just sayin... We've live in Henderson, NV which is better than Las Vegas with cheaper real estate. The key is no HOA. Try finding a place without a HOA--HOA's often seem to turn neighbors into Stasi informants (not kidding).
Anyway, Las Vegas is a pretty nice place to live (we're previously from NY). Just take your time finding a place WITHOUT a HOA and keep your dogs trained & under control. Most of all don't let them get loose.
Weather in Las Vegas is pretty good 75% of the year..
You can even do bitework in some of the parks after dark as long as it's not in a residential area.

Or get yourself an address to register the dog in Henderson. Friend or so... there is always a way ....

My research suggests that Henderson has succumbed to this stupidity. Only Boulder City, NV remains safe and Summerlin South which is a small sliver of land, a third of which is million $ houses. I will pay property and other taxes and spend my income in these jurisdictions.
I am angry with the direction of the country. This used to be a free country. What they should be doing is going after the puppy mills, perhaps they could charge a significantly higher permit fee (not that, its something I like).
I am reading that this stupid law has had the effect that people no longer register their pets, which leads to a decline in permit fees. The vets are probably doing very well.
I also understand that dogs can be given implants after neutering, and unless one feels them, it can be hard to know the difference!...sorry about the random thoughts, just venting.

Guddu, puppy mills have nothing to do with s/n laws...it's the lack of containment by individual owners, allowing intact dogs to reproduce and unwanted litter to end up at the pounds.
Besides, puppy mills already pay licencing fees to USDA and are legal. I doubt that breeders are allowing intact dogs to roam...it's the individual, irresponsible owners which screw things up for every body else.
Freedom in this country has been replaced with fascism. Btw, if freedom is good for one group of dog owners, it should be good for all dog owners.

I was PMing with Marjorie, and she told me she dare not even walk one of her dogs that has dog aggression issues, due to the large number of loose dogs roaming the streets. The last time she tried, he was attacked the moment he put his nose out the front door! The only way she can give the poor dog any exercise is by having him swim in her backyard pool.
If more people would obey existing leash laws, ther wouldn't be a need for the government to over-regulate everything! I've never had a problem with loose dogs in any of the neighbourhoods I've lived in in Ontario. What's the reason? Are Canadians more law-abiding and less likely to thumb their noses at authority?

I liked living in Las Vegas when I lived there, I lived in an apartment in downtown until we bought a house in Henderson. We were in a small community of modest homes with a modest & friendly HOA---BUT we did not have dogs at that time...1991 to 1995.
My kids & I loved the desert southwest, there were tons of things to do & lots of awesome desert playspace. I understand some of that has changed & been encroached on by civilization, which is too bad. Part of the appeal was being able to jump in the car & be in the wilderness in about an hour! I can remember looking up as the stars came out with my kids in the Valley of Fire, looking down on heat shimmered desert from the snow pack of Mt. Charleston....so many good memories (as a single mom I wasn't too into the casinos).
Summerlin was just being started when we lived there, but we weren't too far away from there. I'd say keep your mind open, & keep a low profile with nice, leashed doggies until you're established & folks know you, & who you are (to avoid the Stasi neighbor effect)! I hope you do well there, & make a lot of good memories!
Best wishes, jackie harris

I just moved from Vegas after living there for over 20 years. I briefly read over the comments but not sure if you got your questions answered. Feel free to pm me with any you have. If you think Vegas is bad try finding a place to rent in Wa State with a german shepherd. It has been absolutely ridiculous unless you have unlimited funds.
I will state the unless you live in Nye county (which none of Vegas is, County, North Las Vegas or Henderson. Summerlin is not a separate township per se and is a part of either the City of Las Vegas or County) your subjected to the spay neuter laws unless you have a breeder/handler permit, or you are a member of a schutzhund club. Good luck finding a decent club to join. And just joining one won't exempt you from the law. There is a french ring group I liked and have heard good things about but again you can pm me if you need more info.

Leash laws are a joke :( CJ was never dog aggressive till I started walking him. We have been attacked so many times, that all cj has to do is see a dog unleashed, now, and he goes ballistic. He doesnt act like that when we pass dogs on a lead, unless they challenge him. However, around here, in NY, no one obeys the leash law. Once I was cornered by a loose pittie, who tried to bite his owners when they went to grab him! I had Missie T with me at the time, and we were cornered for 45 minutes while they tried to get ahold of their dog. Poor Missie T could hardly stand, but each time we moved, he came after us. My neighbors down the block, straight down, have their 4 dogs unleashed all the time and they come runing at us in a pack :( Then their are the fru fru dogs that run in pairs and are so small thy bite CJ's feet and then hide under him. Of course, if he bit them, the book would be thrown at him. I cant go to the right because the lab runs loose and comes and us barking and snarling. To the left is a dead end, so no where to walk :( I have driven CJ around the block, to try to walk him there, but same sceanario. I always walk CJ in the middle of the street, but still, dogs loose on their property come charging at us! I was bitten 3 times in the thigh, when I put myself in front so my dog wouldnt be harmed.
:(So, we bought a house in Florida and stupid me thought I could walk him, once we move there. Wrongo- no one leashes their dog there, either. One dog came running up to CJ, when we walked out of our house, after the neighbor let their dog pee on our lawn, I was walking out the door with CJ, who was leashed, and the dog ran right up to our front door and lunged at him. How I got CJ back in the house without him killing the little thing was beyond me. Other people do have a lead on their dogs, but they dont hold the lead- the dog drags the leash! WTF is wrong with people? Its people's stupidity that have led to the need for these laws. So many dogs are being killed in shelters, its frighteneing! GOOD dogs- mamma's with babies, all because people are stupid and cannot contain their dogs. However, the slaughter in the shelters need to stop, and I think the public outcry over the massive amounts of killings has become justified. It breaks my heart to see perfectly good dogs killed. Killing is NOT a solution to selfish and stupid people's mistakes. I am not smart enough to have the answers. However, the body count at shelters is frighteneing, and most shelters do not humanely euthanize- the dogs know what is awaiting them. Some shelters are so cold hearted they euthanize right in the middle of where the other dogs are being held. Some throw all dogs of all ages, big and small, puppies and seniors into the same gas chamber, by catchpoles. Can you imagine the terror these dogs feel being thrown in on a catchpole??? Some take longer to die than others- some dont die and are gassed again! Trust me, you do not want to see what I have seen. If you had a heart, it would be broken into itsy bitsy pieces...
So, CJ will always get his exercise running around my yard and swimming. I am resigned to that fact... Dont rail against the powers that be- rail against stupid people who have no respect for anyone but themselves...THEY are the problem!
