Hi Jackal; Have you found a dog you are looking for? I have a great young male shepherd that I believe would be absolutely suitable for what you are looking for. If you are interested pm. Regards ; Working k9

Not in western Canada, but Wendelin GSD's in Quebec produces some very nice dogs, Cz lines and blends.

Hi all!  Sorry, I thought the thread was dead and stopped checking.  Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply either here or via PM. Much to my surprise I ended up with a suitable prospect far more quickly than anticipated -- a year old Malinois GSD cross.  It's early days yet and my first time handling a Malinois (which Ro is, both behaviourally and in appearance in spite of the GSD parentage), but I'm hoping it's going to be fun and interesting.  The differences so far have taken me by surprise! His original handler is relocating to Europe for work and was evidently worried about finding someone who he wouldn't be too much dog for, but conversely I'm finding him disconcertingly soft for my liking even though he lights up nicely on the field. (For context I am not a remotely harsh handler and I use positive methods preferentially so I'm quite baffled.)  I think I'm going to have a lot of questions for people on the Malinois forum!
