Fry's suggestion of the Best Shot shampoo really works. I swear by it! Definitely make sure to use the conditioner with it as that helps a ton, I use it 75% full strength mixed with 25% water to make it last longer since I have 2 GSDs. It has a non-offensive slightly minty scent. I also use the spray that comes with it when they get stinky at the horse farm. Love, love, love it. I am a groomaholic and have every grooming tool known to man for my dogs, rabbit, horse, and cat but Best Shot works the best.

Best Shot is a great product and it doesn't tear up the dog's skin or yours. Makes grooming and bathing go so much faster. Fur feels so clean and doesn't change the texture of the coat. I've used it on everything from yorkies to poodles to shepherds and Berners.
Never had a comaplint about the smell or the feel of it.
I keep a kit on hand for my own dog when i show her. Make her shine. :D

She is a Mali she is due to be in heat anytime. The problem at the groomer is not the hair it is the aggression. I told him not to take her to the groomer in the first place. He needs to do it himself anyway. Good experence for someone not willing to put her outside. LOL Take the good with the bad.

I haven't tried the attachment but I have the machine.....That thing will sick the brass off a door knob...I love it!

Paul,
I have two GSD's in the house and I don't have near the hair problems I read about on here. I think it's partly because,  I take mine to one of those self bathing places. They have a groomers style blower and elevating wash tubs...and a big plus is, I don't' have to clean wet dog smell out of my house and I my back isn't killing me after washing both of them. I bath them once a month during the winter and every couple of months in the warmer months (they're out side more than in the house) with frequent brushing in between. The Blower works wonders at removing the excess under coat....just like Fry says so even when I do brush them I'm not getting very much shed fur. Also, I feed mine sardine oil and coconut oil once a day. People are always commenting on how shiny and healthy my dogs coats are. Anyway, just a thought.

I have an older farmhouse where some of the wiring is old and some is new where we renovated. I have the Dyson animal vacuum and it does as said above suck the brass of a door handle, however, I have learned not to plug it into a plug that is old wiring. It kept tripping the breaker as it is so powerful. Problem is that the cannister fills up so darn fast with dog hair you have to empty it every 5 minutes. But it does get the dog hair out of the carpet like nothing else. I haven't even attempted to use the dog groomer attachment, as Maya is hiding every time I vacuum.

I looked at the dog wash yesterday and the dryers were very low volume. I may buy a dryer with high volum blower.

Paul,

Wash as dragonfry stated, once dry use a good ole fashion shop vac in conjunction with a furminator or shedding rake. The furminator will remove A LOT of undercoat fluff FAST!

If you buy a dryer, I highly recommend the K9II.

This is the main dryer in my grooming shop and it's near 20 years old.  With two motors, it has plenty of power.

The furminator can be dangerous if you're not careful.  If you use one, make sure you keep the skin flat and taut wherever you brush and don't keep brushing the same spot over and over.  It will damage skin.  On mali coats, after they are dry and most of the coat is blown out, I use a rubber zoom groom brush in a circular motion and it works great.  Then I use the HV dryer some more.

Paul you can invest in the smaller single speed drying if you have just one dog. And i agree the furminator is a great tool used lightly because mals have thin coats compaired to a lot of other breeds so use it with caution. i'm seen pet owners make their dogs bleed by over brushing. The Dryer k9gsd78 uses s a power house and if you can afford it i say go for it. But you might want to see if you cna pick up one second hand off e-bay of find some 4H kids who showed cattle and buy theirs.
As for the aggression wel that's your problem to correct. No groomer wants to handle a dog that may put them out of work for days or weeks. Cause i'm sure 100% of clients are not going to pay for a groomers lost wages.
Best of luck. Maybe get a Pro Guard softie muzzle for drying her. Since she is being a bitch.
Fry
