Flamingo,Slovakia is not more violent place to live than the States,I would say that it is even more safe place to live.
Anyway,if someone wants to have registered GSD pups, some conditions must be fulfilled:
1.The dog must be judged at a dog show under a GSD specialist getting V, SG or G rating.
2.Hips and elbows x-rays must be done, minimum age is 12 months. For breeding A/normal/,B/fast normal/ and C/noch zugelassen/ are accepted.
3.The dog must be titled - SVV 1 or IPO 1 is required as a minimum.
4.The last step is breed survey test.
In general, the dog must be social, have good drives and nerves and be healthy to pass these requirements.Aggressive/aggressive while not provoked/ as well as shy dogs are excluded from breeding.
I must admit, that are still some dogs that have weak nerves, low drives that somehow pass all these requirements and are used for breeding but not many.Actually,to my pleasure,I see a lot of nice,well-bred and well prepared dogs at breed survey tests these days - both WL and SL.
Dogs with good natural drives, good civil aggression while social are preferred, dogs with good switch on/off.
Most of the breeders don´t care about the titles but about the dog itself. There are a lot of studs that have just IPO 1 or SVV 1 title that are used a lot in breeding.
In general,I would say that dogs from Czecho-slovakian lines mature quite early.

when we say old style I don't think any of us are thinking old style bloodline? Like bubba said many of the old style bloodline straze lines the dogs are not as brave or tough in protection like they use to be. I think we mean old style mentality right? The old dogs that had a lot of courage to go with their aggression which is not common these days. Or maybe they just import dogs that arent that great and keep the good ones. Germany uses mals as their police dogs now so i don't know what to think about their breeding even though the dog has to be titled.

I think they were suppose to mature early because they are used for police and miltiary they cant hand dogs that mature at 4 but recent breeding may have screwed that up? IDK

The question was to me when do I think my Czech and Czech/German dogs are mature. I speak only for my Czech and German bloodlines and when I deem them to be mature. Asking which breeder is better is like asking which brand and flavor of ice cream is better. It is a matter of price and taste in most cases. Dogs can be used long before they are mature. A 14 year old with great height and physical assets can play great basketball in high school but few can play in the NBA even at 18-20 years because they need endurance and physical maturity, experience, and a tough mental understanding of the game that comes with maturity. The same with dogs. The winner of the BSP or the WUSV is usually a dog well beyond his prime physically. The 1969 Ford Mustang was a big success and is still a collectors item. The 2013 Ford Mustang is a better car with better performance but some still prefer the 1969 version .. it is a matter of taste and choice. The old style GSD dogs were good and a few were great but some of todays GSD are also good and a few are also great. Times and styles change and no amount of wishing otherwise will change that being a fact.

thanks bubba you seem like one of the very few who at least add a lot to this topic
Was wondering what lines of west german do you usually use? OR are often used? I notice so much TOM in the mixes?
