A good dog food should have everything your dog/puppy needs.  I use Victor dog(puppy) food I feel it's the best bang for your buck, I pay 30$ for a big bag. You get the same high quailty dog food but with out spending 70$ a bag. Now when my puppy becomes an adult I will be switching him to their joint health kibble. The only down side it's not availibe in retail store you have to find a local dealer. I lucked out and have a dealer right down the road from me.  Here is a link to there website...  http://www.victordogfood.com/. In the end it comes down to personal prefrence and how you dog responds to the food. Good Luck.

P.S. I haven't looked much into coconut oil and olive oil but adding it to your dogs food a couple time a week wouldn't  hurt at all. Now in my opinion if you were to do it ever day the dog would end up passing most of out when he or she pee's. Kind of like when human use to many vidamins they are just spending money for very pricy urrine. lol

@Bhaugh
I still want to read up a little more on Ester-C and HD but from what i read, it really should be added.
As for the oil, you think 1/4 a teaspoon is too much? how much would you give, most i read on bottles say 1/4 tsp for 5-30lbs
are you thining 1/8 a teaspoon?

For me Orijen is not too expensive. And i don't have patience to do the DIY raw, so a good kibble, Orijen is about $65 for a 30lb bag
and then the raw I buy will last about 3 months.

Lol yea, i have smelled a few salmon farts from a few dogs at the club, not great but I have seen the benifits also.

@Sitasmom
What would you consider a good quality kibble and would you say just go with an ALS instead of a puppy kibble??

The only thing I would change would be the olive oil. I would instead feed a couple of sardines in sunflower oil (discarding most of the oil) a couple of times a week. You seem to have a lot of oil in the diet otherwise.

Tripe is an excellent whole food, with a perfect phos/calc ratio. I am a big fan of tripe.   Vit C/Esther C, not proven to help with hips but doesn't harm either. I give it just in case it helps :)

any 5 or 6 star kibble will do.......plus a handfull of beef a day (not to exceed 1/8 to 3/16's of its total feed).
i also add a few salmon jell caps as treats every day.

for training treats, i choose a prepared soft food, the kind found in the refrigerator at a pet food store.
they love it, its convenient and has plenty of vitamins and minerals in it.

i start my puppies with esbilac and ground puppy food......and by the time the're 8 weeks they're on a mixture of different puppy kibbles
(just in case the new owners don't listen and change the food too quickly).

i suggest feeding puppy food until about 4 months, then go to an an adult feed.

i prefer to stay at 28% or below protein when pup is growing.....

green tripe stinks to high heaven.......i will not have it in my home.

Reason why I think that plat based oils are not effective in dogs as animal based oils isbecause  plant-based omega-3 fatty acids, such as those found in flax seed, must be converted by your dog's body prior to use. This conversion is very inefficient and may result in as little as 5 % - 15 % of the fatty acids being actually metabolized. As for Salmon oil, your dog's metabolism uses these nutrients immediately without any prior conversion.

when i give my dog canned fish it's in water only, no salt added.
when i give my dog whole egg (egg and shell) i empty the shell.
bake the shell and then grind it in the coffee grinder. there's a lot
of calcium in egg shells. be aware of the calcium levels you're
giving. kibble has calcium in it. i rarely cook my dog's eggs.

Yep - green tripe definitely does not smell nice, but it is an excellent food :)
  The smell doesn't hang around for too long once they have eaten it, but I would caution anyone against heating it up in the microwave LOL.

Thank you all very much for your help

For those who feed RAW, how to you calculate how much to feed.

Is it 2-3% of ideal adult weight???

I also agree to swap olive oil with fish or salmon oil.  Coconut oil is good but does *not* contain omega-3s.
