WOW - I have absolutely no empathy now ! and yes, there is as full moon comming soon !!
Soo gee -- you've been hanging around this breed for 30 years -- and you haven't learned a damn thing ! -- Shame on you !
you got a sick dog - sorry -- but it hapens -- so -lets blame the breeder straight away.
so - first dog - okay -- great -- then you stumbled on another one -- and it turned out okay -- lucky for you.
Then you found Mr. Brandon -- and got a sick dog -- sorry again -- but -- oh - guess what? you went back and got another one -- Shame on You !
I've never heard of a dog dying from yellow teeth !! That's incredible -- but oh -- wait -- what were you feeding it? You lost a lot of points with a lot of people when you start trashing tripe -- it's a perfectly suitable PART of a complete diet for GSD.s. -- Shame on You.
so you went back to Mr. Brandon and got another one -- Shame on You !
and as if that wasn't incredible enough - you did it one more time -- Shame on You !!
There are plenty of bad breeders out there -- they are on every corner -- but there are plenty of good ones too - and it's your responsibility to find them before you plunk your money down -- only to complain for the next 5-6-7--8 years that you got a bad dog.
and the standard is the standard - it's been around for over 100 years -- it has little to do with you getting a sick dog (or three)
There is a difference between 30 years of experience and one year of experience repeated 30 times. Guess which one you have? go ahead, guess?
I'm saying this practically every day now: "Everyone gets the dog they deserve."
I think you need to provide detailed information regarding the health problems and post the pedigrees in this database and provide the links so we can further analyze your problems
and i can't wait for a certain British poster to reply to this thread -- can't wait !!

"...wow. another first time poster who comes on here to bash breeders. imagine that..."
if you know how much pain and anguish so many breeders are causing around the globe to people that just want a healthy puppy and assume that as a basic expectation when purchasing you would not be so flippant. the term dog-breeder is increasingly becoming a derogatory term in public perception, instead of experienced folks flipping off the less educated and mocking them maybe you should actually try and get a feel for the growing negative public perception - most people are not ped nerds or chiropractic vet equivalents nor should they have to be just to get themselves a basic healthy decent dog. some of you could do with a good slapping yrself in the face a few times.

vk....
get off your high horse. i've been on the other side of the fence too many times. i stood behind the dogs i bred and took dogs
back for a lot of really stupid reasons......no hassles and no questions asked. no fault of the dog. heck, once i took a dog back
because he stepped on a nail & had an abcess between his toes. they didn't want to take the dog to the vet. full refund.
i no longer breed and of the 8 gsds i have all but one was purchased. know why i don't breed????? because people are
idiots. they want to blame everything on someone else, the breeder, the dog, whatever. no, i don't breed anymore & crap
like this o.p. is exactly why. i've had gsds for over 30 yrs and have seen a lot of changes in dogs and people in that time.
mostly not for the better either. i won't hold this against you, but don't be shaking your finger at me when i've seen the other
side of the coin far too many times.

My sympathies on your sad losses Nightprowler, whatever your motive for posting about your dogs. I feed raw meat, including tripe and have done almost all my dog owning life and my dogs live typically into their teens so I can't see what your problem is with diet, just take a look at Digby Dogbi on another thread, he is my norm, not an exception and I am not unique in having GSD's that live long and healthy lives.
The breed standard is as it has always been, it's just different breeders interpretations that make the variations in type and it is possibl to get just what you like in the breed with a bit of research, so easy now we have the internet.

Don't know who the OP is (don't think I WANT to know them !) - but I think I do know
who the Mr Brandon referred to might be. And what has prompted their sudden
appearence on the PDB.
If I were you-all, I'd just play the Don't Feed the Troll game ...

Ziegenfarm, well put. Breeding can be exhausting, even if nothing goes wrong. The mindset of buyers is downright scary, and I think for all the moaning about "bad breeders" that goes on, we need to realize that without "apathetic buyers" we wouldn't be keeping all these "bad breeders" in business. The Walmart mentality has leaked into dogs as well, as you illustrated with you nail in foot story. Dogs are thought of as disposable, and everyone wants the "perfect" dog, cheap, and they don't want to put any effort into achieving that. I've been extremely fortunate to become friends with nearly everyone I've sold a dog to, but still...I relish the thought of relaxing with my pet dogs and my family for a few years until I have more time to get back into it full swing, should I decide to. People ARE idiots- on both sides of the coin. One needs only to look at the 12 week old puppies on CL to see the mindset of both breeder and buyer.

Any meat is mostly water. About 75%. So what? Tripe is an excellent food and it is not cheep. I would not feed it exclusivelly but in mixture with variety of other meats.

Sad experience at the hands of Roy Brandon whose Lornaville dogs carry well known epileptic bloodlines.

You should be very careful and very sure and would be able to prove that it is so if you are going public with it.
