I don't believe breeders that do not list their prices do so because they want to charge different people different prices. Price should be far down the list and some breeders probably either don't want the clientele whose priority is monetary or want a chance to make the case to the uneducated why their puppies are worth the extra investment. If you are visiting websites and are able to see pedigrees and are knowledgeable about the different types and levels of breeding , you should already be able to guess the price range, if you can't do that you need more of an education about the breed, some people once they have visited different kennels and have seen the difference deem it important enough to make a bigger investment than they thought. When I was looking for a breeder 7 years ago and was visiting different websites seeing the prices and considering how much they cost 16 years previous, I was pleasantly surprised to get more of a dog at far less of an expense from a breeder that did not advertise the price. It would do you good if you have resistance to cute puppies to visit different kennels even the ones out of your price range so you can see the difference and make a better decision when buying from one that is in your range. Most kennels do not consider it a waste of their time to educate puppy buyers,

Very well said, markobytes.

Yes, I agree, Markobytes. At least, when it works out that way, its
probably the ideal. Sadly I think there are circumstances where
the time-wasting calls that Margaret NJ refers to apply; and / or
ppl find the website but don't do any other research, then complain.
Personaly if I am 'shopping', I don't care whether the breeders put
prices up front or not, cos I do make sure I know what the going rates
are, and what other qs to ask, & what to look for, and I am prepared
to haggle a bit if necessary. I certainly wouldn't refuse to take a look
at a dog or litter just cos the price wasn't in their ad. if that was definitely
dogs I knew I wanted to consider. Conversely, I wouldn't just buy the
first pup presented to me. I can walk away from puppies when the
price is fine if I don't like something else I hear or see; but too many
of the general public looking for a pet or a 1st show/work dog get a
"fluffy puppy" attack, do just that, ... then moan about it afterwards.

Why do buyers only ask if I have so-and-so color dog in whichever gender? If your listed requirements are to get a dark sable male, and the only OTHER thing you want to know is the price, you're probably not the customer I want to have, so it saves us both some time.

Handmutter you bring up a good point, many succumb to the fluffy puppy attack and some breeders rely on it. I also hate to hear of someone buying a puppy because they felt sorry for it's living conditions. I feel sorry for the puppies born at the end of October, they are cute under the tree Christmas morning but become unwanted pests by spring. In all fairness I added two sentences to my previous post before I noticed Jenni's comment.

There are many good reasons for me not to list price. One of them is that I do not want people be shopping by price but by the quality of the dogs. If they like the dog enough than they will call or e mail. I want to talk to people only because they like the dog. If the dog is too expensive for them I may have different one for less money which may satisfy their needs just as well.
My prices are pretty firm thus if your cousin call me he will get the same price as you. I do make exceptions downwards though and give discounts to veterans, military, LE, firefighters and handicapped.
