never mind

Emergency Medical Services: Emergency medical services are guaranteed by the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (1986) and requires hospitals to provide emergency care regardless of citizenship, legal status or ability to pay. On the surface the main reason of cost is why American citizens would not want to provide healthcare for illegal immigrants.

The cost is a large burden and usually is passed on to the taxpayers or as higher healthcare costs for paying citizens. But, supporters of emergency healthcare for illegal immigrants want American's to think about what would happen if hospitals refused emergency care to someone because they were an illegal immigrant. What kind of county would the U.S. be if illegal children were denied... could you walk past an emergency room and be fine with that? Obviously, as American's we are not willing to let people suffer in that manner and after realizing the reality of no emergency healthcare for illegal immigrants, many start agree that emergency health care is needed regardless of citizenship.

Wow Ninja,
you sure got a bug up you ass.
And many of your statements are inaccurate.

If you want to lower healthcare costs put an end to the price gouging  by the whole industry in general and insurance monopoly that's created this situation in the first place.
No one who's been hurt in an accident should ever be denied basic life saving care regardless of who or what they are.

I do agree Ninja, the system is really messed up and needs much (responsible) revision.

Moons my post was to the original poster who mentioned she is going to have a difficult time (and I imagine many others will also) paying for Obama care.

My post was sarcastic, however it was a pretty accurate description of what goes on in this state.

Our family was having a discussion on Thanksgiving Day a few years ago and I mentioned that I read something about the state giving cars to people and paying for insurance, repairs etc. I also mentioned they were giving certain people cell phones. Everyone looked at me like I had two heads.

One of my sister-in-laws who is a Psychiatrist and works on many state cases jumped into the conversation and said I was correct. She didn't elaborate on the particular program, but she did confirm it is happening.

If you don't live in this STATE you have no idea what goes on.

I never said anything along the lines of people being DENIED health care.

Maybe you should move here, maybe next time a certain political party is trailing in votes they will start handing out free POT with the cell phones and cars.

Actually, Ninja is correct, people on welfare in PA also get a car, insurance and repairs if they don't have access to public transportation.

Blitzen, all of the "plans" I've looked into are anywhere between $300 and $700/month.  And the ones that are "the price of a cell phone" (which I also don't have and can't afford) don't pay for much and the deductibles wouldn't be affordable either, so what's the point?  Looks like it won't help me at all and on top of it, I'll still have to pay for it.  In the last 5 years, I've been to the doctor only to have my BP meds filled and that broke me.  So I don't see how this is such a wonderful thing, unless you're on welfare or can afford the best plans.  As usual, those in the middle lose, once again.

Ninja you forgot the option to fake your own death and then work under the table.

The "help for the needy" excuse for the ACA was a joke.  As Blitzen pointed out, emergency care for everyone has been mandated for years.  When I worked with public assistance recipients in NY, they also had better optical and dental care than I did working in Social Services.

The ACA is a tax on the middle class to pay for all the free government care.  It has some good features like kids stay covered until age 26 since they are unlikely to find work in this economy.  It requires coverage for pre-exisiting conditions, although many reputable(?) insurance providers have agreed to cover such conditions voluntarily.  It may protect the uninsured from bankruptcy.  And it may help reduce medical costs if doctors are willing to accept federally determined reimbursement rates.  Many doctors have threatened to quit medicine or accept only cash patients,  But, again, in this economy, how would the doctors find another job?

I've heard that many States are not complying with creating exchanges.  I've also heard that some employers and individuals consider the yearly penalty to be an improvement over paying premiums.  One thing for sure is that there will be alot more people jumping through hoops to apply for government assistance (i.e., subsidies).   More paperwork, more bureaucracy, more dependency, more interference.  And certainly less privacy and self determination.   Good luck, Travels.
