I wish we could see more of the spine...I'm no expert but it looks funny to me.  Does anyone see what looks like a jammed up area where the base of the tail would be?  Could be the positioning and could be the pelvis casting shadows...just looks funky to me.  Maybe that's why she limps.  The hips look good to me so I'm with everyone else, no surgery needed there.

for a four year old or any other age these hips are not goo at all  , but not so bad that it needs an operation

major problems with hips like these are overweight and undertrained dogs , in other words , no one else to blame than the owners , not intentionally ,  but anyway if you cant or wont take care of your dog , dont get one

even a dog with great hips shouldnot be overweight and   weak on the muscles because of lack of training etc , IMO

If the same vet took those xrays, then not only do we have VCFD, but also a cranial-rectal insertion problem (with the vet, not the dog.) Terrible xrays, hips look fine, dog could be limping for literally THOUSANDS of reasons. I had one limp, owners freaked....turned out she pinched her TOE in her crate. Sprained or broken toe...can't remember which. A fat dog or an out of shape dog is also way more likely to injure itself...like I said, could be any number of things, not the least of which could be spinal.

If she were mine and it didn't subside quickly, I'd take her to a chiropractor. Hard to tell from that pic, but the spine may need attention.

I have learned alot from this site about xrays and positioning of the dogs. http://leerburg.com/hipart.htm
I tried to make it so that it would be a clickable link but it wont work this time. I did copy and paste and then test  the copy and paste and got the site.
Great site for some education on hips and xrays. The man has given oppinions on xrays posted to him as well.
Good Luck with all.

I don't see anything wrong with those hips!!
Look somewhere else for the limping...it's not the hip that's for sure!

Dogs do not limp at 4 years of age because of hips like this. There is other problem. 100%

Hello everyone,

I have just heard back from the owner, she got a second opinion from an ortho vet, and the dog has a torn or ruptured ACL, she is having surgery tomorrow to repair it, in a way that's a big relief, cause we were worried about DM cause she's just over 4 yrs., but they said no way on that.
Their dog is overweight so that may have been a contributing factor.
The vet said he has done many operations like this on police dogs.

Hope she's back to normal quick, they said a 12 week recovery period is the norm,

Here's what her owner sent me, a link to describe the operation she's having, very interesting:
