Could it possibly be that you did not make the full figure 8? I've gotten tapped a couple of times, because I thought I did an 8 and it ended up technically I did not make the last half turn. Sometimes when you get nervous this can happen. Too bad you didn't ask him to explain exactly what you did wrong.
There is no rule on which way to turn first as long as you complete a full figure 8. I had a trainer once tell us which way our dog would do best. I believe he was looking at who tended to lag and who was hyped up at first.

About the 8:When you go into the group, you go first around a person with your dog on the outside(of this person). Then you go to the person on the other side with the dog on the inside(between you and the person you walk around)
Then stop in the middle of the group.
Some people do it the other way.First dog on the inside, then on the outside.
Maybe, this is what that judge meant?

jhana, yes, he said I did it wrong. i must go first to my right and then to my left. However nowhere in the rule book it indicates that that is the MUST. until now I simply did 8 figure and repeated it again off leash. My dog is superglued to my hip so I don;t care what way I go first. I however, have an IPO trial in couple months and I hate loosing points for not knowing.
So I want to know what it the excellent, correct way. because obviously there is the correct way as I was told. And maybe not, maybe tis particular judge likes it so much he thiks is the rule. I dont care in BH, but in IPO, every point I loose is a point that does not need to be lost sue to lack of info on my side.
Thank you all for your input.

The rules do not say which way you must turn first...I was at FCI Judges meeting and it was never indeicated that you must turn one way first and the other second...
It "may" have been a rule in that judges country.....Each country can have variences to the rules...

No way; judges sometimes make up their own rules now?

First, there is no second left before entering the group.
That was a translation mistake.
Second, there is no set way that you have to go through the group.
Most people go in to the group and turn to the left first, especially if you have a dog that you are concerned may lag.
You never want to go right first if your dog has a tendency to lag in the group.
Third, the reason you don't see a heading for BH in the FCI rulebook is that the FCI does not require a BH to do an IPO1, but, many of the individual organizations from each country do require it because they have been following the SV rules for a long time.

Y'know what? The AKC certainly has its share of flaws, but you've got to give them this--the OB rules have always been well-thought out, clearly explained, and easily [and inexpensively!] obtained from the organization. When I first got involved in doing SchH, I was stunned to learn that if I wanted a copy of the rules I'd have to purchase them from USA... This was in the years B.I. [before Internet], of course, when Usenet ruled...in the years A.I., we've had the luxury of going to the FCI site or the DVG site and downloading them at no cost.
Is there someplace to find the basic written test for BH first-timers? I ask only because the one I've seen for USCA trials seems to have a fair amount of questions that pertain specifically to USCA trials/rules/regs, and I'm curious as to how it compares to the original test...

The BH test questions change occasionally, usually as the rules change.
The reason it pertains to USCA specifics is because that is who you are trialing with and they want you to know USCA rules.
Not every organization requires a written test.
If you have previously put a BH on a dog, you do not need to take the test again. (Or if you took the test passed and failed the BH you do not need to take the test again.)
