Hedi

by Hedi on 21 September 2012 - 11:09

Had a similar situation.  Dog was treated for all the above (girardia, cox, round of panacur).  Vomited twice.  Nothing showed up on any tests.  This dog is raw fed.  I think there is something going round.

Sitasmom,
Has your vet checked for Clostridia?  Both my dogs have had it and show symptoms like you posted.
I have never waited 3 weeks before getting them checked as they were practically pooping water.  Took a stool sample in to be checked (well, what I could gather of it) and there was such an overgrowth of Clostridia.  They were treated with Metronidazole tabs and FortiFlora .  I still give FortiFlora (not every day) but often to try and keep their GI trac in balance.

Jransom, if it were treatable w/metronidazole, then it should've responded if that was the problem.

People often forget to do the repeat course of fenbendazole for giardia. You're pretty much back to square one, ime, if you don't do it a few weeks later, but most vets neglect to advise their clients of this.

The doggie flu going throu PA was described to be more of an upper respiratory thing not intestinal.  Good Luck

both dogs have or are being treated..... by different vets on opposite sides of Houston.

same course of treatment was chosen by each vet.

first for cox, then worms, then giardia........ Metro, panacur, fenben.........

dog's were/are not pooping water, but mashed potato/pancake poops.

first dog is no longer affected, eating well, pooping solid for couple of weeks now.

other is 2.5 weeks into it........

my next suspicion would be the food as it probably came from the same distributor and got hot or overheated while shipping;  goes rancid really easily. Go get a different bag or rice/chicken/hamburger and add some pumpkin for a while to let system settle down.??  BOL  Nan
