My 18 month old male spent a lot of time around a 10 year old female lab the first year of his life. From around 3 to 6 mos old he did the squat just like her. From 7 to 11mos he did the stretched out "dont let me pee on my leg or tummy" .. then all of a sudden one day he went up to a tree and hiked the leg. Been that way ever since with his leg up and out peeing on everything outside.

Did your male spend any time with older females? I don't know if that makes a difference but I think it might have with mine. I worried about it too but one day I guess he decided it was the right thing to do around 12 mos of age.

Your milage may vary but give him some time.

Ziggy does a fair job of peeing between his front legs, thank goodness but yes, he has wet down his legs.  It's just the nature of the beast.  LOL

Joan, the whining is more because he wants to run and snatch all the balls up, but has to relief himself first. He is also a weird pooper, likes to go set his behind into a larger bushel of grass or directly into a bush when we are out and about...lol

That's good news..so he's just complaining about the inconvenience LOL. My theory as to dogs dumping into bushes up off the ground is; to make sure nobody steps in it ( mainly him) and to make sure it's not missed by passerby rivals.....Or potential sweethearts. ;)

Oh, how I would love it if my dogs would dump in a bush.  As for the leg peeing, these are just to funny of visions.  So far my males "pee straight and true."  I do have to watch Baron though.  On the rare occassions he gets to go in public, he has a tendency to "mark" me as his territory.  (last time he went to a ranch auction, he peed on my shoe and I was not too pleased).

bahahaha DDRCzechfan Auggie does that too sometimes, but just on his the back of his front legs. He's clever though, he'll often raise up a front leg in order to NOT pee on himself!  Talent.....  When he starts hiking a back leg though that'll be a site.....he'll end up trying to balance a back leg up and a front leg up....  Don't worry though, Beau/Auggie's sire did this too when he was younger I know... (the whole projectile pee thing).

I just sold a two year old dog that still does this.  Luckily he will clean himself off shortly after.

Stop giving him water. Problem solved. Just be thankful you don't have to wipe a dog's ass.

Chaz - what, you've never had to wipe a dog's ass ?  How many years have you been getting away with
that ?
