Oh yeah, Macrowel, I'm the Alpha; but our 'pack' is just me and Taz. He did not mix much with the pack I used to work with.
Except one or two bitches when on their own with him. This was 'cos they already had their Alpha; also I could not trust
him not to get into a ruck with one of the dogs (even tho' they were all neutered and he isn't). If they all caught him by
accident and tried to pile in on him, he used to do the sensible thing and present his belly (only happened twice). Some
individual males among them - as elsewhere - he was friendly with. It was/is always a bit of a crap shoot whether he'll
like another male or not. Mostly he just wants to be dominant and we get the head over their shoulders stuff; if they
submit to that he's usually all right with them. But he's a little unpredictable on that score. Maybe there's something in
the 'sensing weaknesses in them' theory. But none of this stuff happens often - I don't let it; he's ok when I've got
him on lead. Just that over six or seven years, I've seen enough of it to recognise it. Also that time has been seeded
with moments when he tests himself against me, to see if he can take over (yet?). Not in an aggressive way; he hasn't
a truly 'nasty' side. He's just pushy.
BTW he is absolutely lovely with baby puppies of both sexes.
