VKGSDs

Unfortunately some of the Rotts I've seen weren't working for much of anything, unless being actively aggitated real close (then they'd show nice aggression).  They all required heavy luring in obedience, always toys in the armpit (or looked very flat in trial without) and didn't appear to be very animated in the work just for the sake of working or pleasing the handler.  But, I've seen plenty of GSDs like that too.

One comment above mentioned Dobermans, well, what about beauceron's?  Seems like they would be a physical compromise between a doberman, rottweiler and GSD.  I went to a couple of beauceron kennels not too long ago and they look like they are physically on par with what a GSD can do.  Don't know about actually training on though.

To the comment above this one.  They are wanting either a Rottweiler or a German Shepherd.

If your looking for a Rott to act/work like a Shepherd or a Mali....well...the good ones I've seen were imports...as far as the heavy luring in obedience....please, no one is luring dogs more than us shepherd folks.....

here are a few Rotts at the Deutsche Meisterschaft VPG

Do they know Beauceron's exist?

momosgarage I don't know, but what does it matter? They really like Rottweilers, they always have. That's one of the main reasons they are considering that breed because as a whole that is their favorite breed.  I was showing her online a lot of videos of SchH trials and telling her different things in regards to the Shepherd breed, lines, etc and she's decided when she gets a dog this upcoming spring it will be one of the two breeds.

I have a friend with a very high drive, toy driven, animated Rott. This dog will be bred this fall to a male in Cali. Both have all healthchecks, BSTs, and other titles.

Pitbulls do nicely as well, both IPO and FR. They bite hard and are athletic enough to catch decoy with tons of intensity.
