My experience with lactation is it is NO PROBLEM except for the time involved doing the activity, when the mom is provided with adequate and proper nutrition. Just like the replenishing of blood cells, it is a natural ongoing process and normal part of life. Gestation is easier because you aren't dealing with another being, just need to fuel and rest so the body can do its job.

lol, sorry about that Ibrahim.  yea, a good example of high mortality rate could go as follows: stray dog whelps a litter of 8 pups, then faced with poor food, disease, predation, weather/temperature...only 2 or 3 pups end up reaching adulthood....if they're lucky!
