Super Para I have the same query as Ambiigsd. The BVA scheme does not allow for a second score, so am very confused as to how your dog was scored twice. It would be useful to have the answer on the forum, as us Brits all have the same understanding of the BVA rules.

Even though OFA (in the U.S.) certifies at age 2, most dogs destined for a purpose, and it doesn't really matter what purpose, are prelimed at a younger age to determine if there are issues that would hinder the dog in pursuit of whatever the goal is.

The "a" stamp at 1 y.o. does seem young to some, including me, but the SV also has the ZW system that takes into account the family history.

Question about "PENNHIP evaluation."   If OFC will not cert until 2 years, who would I have the PENNHIP evaluation done by?

Rik - in your last post, is the PENNHIP evaluation what you are referring to at the younger age to make sure the puppy is healthy enough in the joints to continue?

No, though that is probably a good option. I was just referring to the practice of getting an idea if one wants to pursue training, titling, show, breeding, etc. Most would not want to with a dog that clearly has no chance to certify.

Fawn, I don't know if things have changed, but 4-5 years ago I was interested in a pup about 5 months of age. Previously having had a young pup with HD,  I wanted this pup x-rayed before purchase. Someone (don't remember who) told me all vets are NOT knowledgeable about PennHip x-rays and the x-rays taken for PenHip are different than for OFA. I contacted PennHip and asked them to give me a recommendation for a vet who does PennHip x-rays.  If I remember correctly the vet had to be certified by PennHip. Again, this goes back about 5 years and maybe things have changed. So, contact PennHip and maybe they can help you.

Thanks.  Now it makes more sense.  I was thinking that PennHip X-rays was a type not a company.  I agree Rik; I would want to know now if Cirberus physically has what it takes.  I will look at these.  Thanks again everyone.          .
