I think we should compare the best Czech showline male to the best working male (once that's determined)

Cak Hartis Bohemia was the most overbred (err, excuse me, 'prolific') dog in the year 2011, with 51 breedings.




A not so close second with 30 breedings, was ENZO v.Fichtenschlag-Zwinger.




At this rate, I figure there will be NO working dogs left in the Czech Rep. within a handful of years.  So, if the world doesn't end on 12/12/12, where are we bettin' the next best reserve of working gsd's will come from?  Hungary?  Russia?

Daryl, how about the USA, since so many of the very great ones have made the flight here?

Including Zoran, if I remember correctly.  Some americans have more $$$ than sense, and a dog's potential greatness can quickly fade as it becomes simply a notable producer of not-so-notable puppies.  Anyway, there aren't enough working minded handlers (that buy local), and while people will always tend to favor certain dogs, at the same time, they will want something their neighbor doesn't have.

what if all the czech breeders filled their kennels with ellute,javir,bomber,vito and so on, would that be better ?

many european breeders breed the flavour of the day, many americans want the flavour of the day, so buy offspring of the flavour of the day
biggest problem that american breeders are facing in my opinion is the size of the continent, where we can drive to the wanted stud pretty easy(my next male is 8 hours drive but that is extreme for here)
because there are some really great dogs on your side of the pool and many are not used or hardly used for breeding at all, If I was in the USA I could breed some nice dogs with what is available overthere

Except that most importers of notable producers here do not share. "Exclusive" use only really works in favor of a breeder that has what everyone wants, to keep their puppies in demand. I'd rather see ellute,javir,bomber,vito and so on in place of those showline producers above. But of course, every locale should offer something a bit different than all the rest. I just don't want to see the Czech variety get swallowed up in show lines.

I remember Eurosport doing a whole season of showline breeding.  "WTF", I thought.  I think they regained their senses though.

I don't know how a person could say who the best is without asking what dog suits me best. Like the other post about is a dog a czech dog. What is a Czech dog. When I look for a dog, I look at the type that is representative of what the breeder is raising and has raised. Most people if they are honest about it will do the same. I want hard strong dogs, with balanced drives, not hyper prey drive, but one that will die trying to win his fight. Or bred for war. High intelligence, and above all strong nerves. That limits my availability quite alot but they are there. But you can't just go to a geographical region to find them. To much infusus is put on location and names. It happens that the dogs I have are all from the Czech republic, but it just happens that that is where the type I wanted were located. It doesn't mean there are not some just as good elsewhere, I just don't know where they are at. The dogs I would recommend are probably not what every one would want, and at the present time would not be what the average person would want for a dog. Just my opinion .

Aaarrggh, don't ask me to guess, I come up with too many ways to go with that.
