I have yet to see an ASL with a weak topline winning anything in the AKC ring. Any photos of one or two of those dogs?

GSDGuy, the "froggy" rear is attributed to the GSL, this dog would have been influential with the ASL breeders. In 1964 there were probably no GSD's with froggy rears, that came later when breeders on both sides of the pond decided to improve the breed LOL.

Here is my guess and I know zero....but....I bet it all had to do with movement. I bet some dogs came along that could "move" fancier than the pretty dog posted above. Then, perhaps, breeders felt if a little motion won than more would be better. They started breeding for greater angulation to allow the dog to really step in such a way that his front end would be extreme. The bggest moving dogs tended to win. And..walaa...you have the modern german shepherd show dog.
But, it's just a hypothesis so don't flame me!!

This dog's pedigree is 100% German. He has no ASL at all. Nice dog for his day and time!
