I would like to add this statement also:

Where Schutzhund requires a decoy to "test" a dog, French Ring requires a decoy to "defeat" the dog. As a result, both dog and decoy must learn "fighting skills", somewhat unique to each dog and decoy, in order to defeat the other.

Salut Mimi,

Yes and at "Les Sélectifs" and "Le Championat de France" the judges let the decoys bend the rules some so that the dogs are fought even harder that what the rules state.

Thank you for posting the videos and taking the time to detail these "events".  I am in the process researching in order to buy a GS puppy and I keep getting amazed by the abilities and showcases of these dogs.

Think FR is awsome, shame here in the UK it's not a big thing, we have a couple of UK dogs in FR but they have to go to Europe to compete. Brilliant sport
Thanks for sharing the video

Smiley, French Ring is tough, really tough.
I would say a Ring 1 title is the equivalent of a SchH3, minus the tracking phase of course.

There's soo much adversity from the decoy in Ring 2, a thing you won't see in schutzhund. So to this level, sports can't be compared anymore.

Problem is, a dog with French Ring titles can't be breed surveyed and showed in the working class in sieger shows.

I wanted my Ring 1 dog to be breed surveyed and shown but the GSSCC (Canada) told me they don't consider French Ring as a valid working title...so sad.

In my opinion, they are close-minded.
Why is HGH a valid working title despite the fact that it has no tracking phase!!??
If HGH is a valid working title, then French Ring sould be too.

So.....it may not help French Ring in becoming popular. SV pink-papers are still too important on the market.
And maybe that's why you won't see soo many stud dogs with Ring titles.

French Ring is tough, but it is also a sport.  Again a good dog can, and there are several who have, titled in several of the sports.  I don't think the reason why French Ring is not "accepted" by the SV has anything to do with tracking - it has more to do with the SV = if the sport did not come from the "motherland".......I think if you have a Ring 1 dog - you should have no problems teaching the dog to pass a SchH1 to get a breed survey - everyone says SchH tracking is easy:)

French Ring is becoming more popular here in the SE......which is great to see...even some "Schutzhund" clubs offer it now.

Mimi are you in BC by chance? I see you have a dog from Bullinger. They were on my short list when looking for my last dog. Tracy was great to talk to and I hope to one day have one of her dogs. I would love to watch French Ring sometime but the closest club to me is 100 mile House but I will be in Mission in 6 weeks, is there someplace nearby? Langley perhaps? That a random member of the public can go and watch?
