I recently switched my adult dog to a raw diet and I am getting 2 import pups that have been fed kibble.  What is the best way to switch them?  When I get them they will have gone a VERY long time without food and I would like to feed them a handful of something when I get them before I make my 2.5 hour drive home from the airport.  Suggestions?

putting raw scraps in their kibble, and, of course, dogs love  it, but, for the most part switching to raw was  can be done "cold turkey" without any issues. If your dogs have a sensitive tummy, I would recommend easing into it, and I am SURE members with sensitive tummy dogs can chime in.

One thing to remember is when feeding OMs (Organ Meat,) introduce them in SMALL portions SLOWLY as they are RICH.

And another thing...because when I was first researching raw I was confused.....

When people say....

RMB....they mean "Raw Meaty Bones."
MM.....they mean "Muscle Meat."
OM.....they mean "Organ Meat."
Hope this helps. Best wishes to your new dogs. When you all are settled in please post up some pictures thank you.

I'm feeding RAW for the first time. I started when Chase was 5 months old. At first I was worried about bones, balanced nutrition, digestive issues, etc., but my boy just turned 10 months old 5 days ago, and he's the healthiest dog I've ever owned. His coat is gorgeous and his body is dense and muscular. His stools are tiny and almost no odor, and his breath has no odor either. He's always brimming with energy and has never had hot spots or allergies of any kind. I am completely sold on RAW.

Here is a photo I snapped this morning when I gave him a chicken quarter.

With the help of some of the seasoned folks on this site I switched Kai to 100% raw food when he was 12 - 13 weeks old.  Prior to the raw he had nothing but diarrhea - we had every test done on him - "special" vet food etc.  within 24 hours of switching to raw no more screaming poops - he is now a 5 month old healthy happy (and I think) beautiful boy.

Hello,

I feed all my dogs raw meat and very little veg as in the real world the only veg they would get is from the gut of their prey which is really not much. I also DO NOT FEED ANY KIBBLE ... Kibble and raw digest at 2 totally differrent rates and you are asking for some problems if you try to do both. It is best to cut the kibble out all together or they can't make that adjustment. I found that out the hard way.

I do however, need some advice on diversity of meats and bones to give Jack Russell Pug crosses. I feed a lot of chicken but would like to expand their variety. Can someone advise??

About the chemicals in meat - when I finally sat down to look up the ingredients in kibble one by one I was completely mortified!!!!! The things I learned are things I can tell you I would rather not KNOW! In that kibble can be road kill, animals that were put to sleep for different illnesses etc ... Trust me my dogs eat the meat we buy to eat ourselves too and whatever is in there is nothing compared to what is in kibble!!! Well I call it chemicle kibble ... For instance the ingredients in commercial dog food comes from "rendering factories" ... google that and watch some videos I guarantee your worry over what is in the raw meats will pale in comparison ... I had never felt more disgusted in my entre life!!! You know when aniamls on farms die from infection etc ... they go into the big machine WHOLE and they get ground up for use to make dog food! And cat food for that matter!!!

I can also tell you that the difference in my dogs smell both their fur and breath is so different now that they are on a raw diet!!! And their coats feel and look shiny and smooth there is no more greasy feeling to the coats ... And I have not scooped giant poops in almsot 2 years as the dog being fed a raw diet has 50% smaller poops and they dry out and turn to chalk in days and there is no super bad stink!!! The ONLY time I scoop is when we are going to be having a party etc ... that is it ... and as for our lawn ... it is the lushest and greenest it has been in years!! Other people even notice it!! Here is another biggie ... my dogs teeth went from having yellowish brown around the gums to white clean teeth! Bone acts as a scaler and the meats acts as dental floss!!! It is just amazing!!! I can't say enough good about it!

So ... now that I have complletely babble my head off (and could still go on and on) ... lol ... I would love to hear from folks feeding raw and to smaller breeds like my Jugs (Jack Russell - Pug mixed babies) Oh how I love them!!!!!

Thank you

Ooops I also forgot to mention to you all not to forget that the food in the vets office is there because of agreements between the maker and the vet ... the vet gets kick backs for encouring the sale of the manufacturers foods ... The best thing would be to find yourself a holistic raw fed believer vet ... they will understand!!!
