I may be wrong, but I think you're looking for a martingale collar. These collars resemble the pinch but do not have any prongs. When pulled, the collar is made to distribute even pressure around the dog's neck, unlike a choke. Just punch "martingale" collar into google and you'll find tons of links.

Thank you all so much for your all input. Since I've received my pup from the breedeer I immediately began training calsses so I have a varity of collars and leashes for any scenario. I also have a martingale collar because during training I am unable to use the pinch collar in class and the martingale best resembles it. Yet these are all working collars and should not be on throughout the day.

I guess I should have had a better word choice for "thick" coat, but this is my first GSD - and though I've only had him for half a year, I don't think I could have any other breed. He is so intelligent and such a loving friend. So the shedding will be a joy! Ha!

However, my only concern with the collar was something to hook his tags to, save the fur, and eliminate the "frumpy" look that his collar is causing him at the moment now that his hair is becoming more dense and longer compared to when he was a pup. Plus, since I have a lot of other collars that offer more control when outdoors and when distractions are high I never hook a lead to his tag collar. My trainer recommended the fursaver and with all the other tasks I learned that day in the class, the name of the collar slipped my mind and thank you all for helping me recall it.
