"A dog like that IS a full time job."

Yeah. . . . I'm figuring that out already.

Be happy your pup has all the right stuff with no training, now its your turn to teach control. You got the bloodlines you paid for ,good lines means alot of work but so worth it and you found the right place for advise on training . make sure your the boss and go from there. Best wishes

That pup is doing what has been bred into him.
I had a litter of 12 that has some of the same lines as your pup, and I had another litter of 8 that also has some DDR blood in them.

The litter of 12 was an out crossing and the litter of 8 was a linebreeding.

Both litters were born 2 days apart, so they were side by side to each other in the computer/puppy room. One morning when they were turning just about 5 weeks old, I opened the door to the back room, it was about 5:30am and still dark out, I just wanted to take a peek at everyone and make sure they were ok.

The first pen was the linebred pups, I walked by looked in>all was quiet, then I approached the 12 little buggers in the next pen, mind you, I was quiet just sneaking a look in, and I'll be darned, all of the pups were sitting there looking at me and growling in a very low steady growl, kinda of freaky....when I spoke and said, hey guys, they stopped and were fine, but I have never had a litter so young do that.

They are turning six months soon, I made sure everyone went to puppy class with their pup,I told them about the pups growling at me, and they need to be one up on them>> and a few said>>>Oh we don't need to go to puppy class, we have a guy that comes here & trains the pup, another person said, Oh, I trained him or her myself, those are the ones having behavior issues.

The people that have and continue to go to group training, their pups are super smart and doing awesome.

My pup from that litter is Eartha Kitt, and I am noticing a balanced, stable calm temperament, that when she meets other dogs, they are relaxed and comfortable with her.

She is a very confident pup, and that, it seems is what you are describing in your pup.  Don't let his brain go to waste, you have a very trainable, intelligent pup!

Thanks for the input, Mirasmom.  We've been doing puppy class since he was 10 weeks and are getting ready to go into intermediate obedience.  He LOVES the puppy agility equpment so I'm planning to go into agility after intermediate obedience.

I've noticed the growling behavior you mentioned too.  He already growls when someone comes on the property but will stop immediately if we tell him they're ok.
