Here is what the NRA said!

The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” he said at a Washington press event, adding, “With all the money in the federal budget can’t we afford to put a police officer in every single school?”

He said that elected officials had no authority to deny Americans the right and the ability to protect themselves and their families from harm.

And he noted that there are millions of active and retired police officers, military veterans, and private security guards – “an extraordinary corps of patriotic, trained, qualified citizens” – who should devise a protection plan for every school.

“I call on Congress today to act immediately to appropriate whatever is necessary to put armed police officers in every single school in this nation,” he said.

Disbelief in some quarters after NRA urges armed guards in schools

He said that laws that established gun-free school zones have had the effect of telling “every insane killer in America that schools are the safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk.”

LaPierre said America has left its schoolchildren “utterly defenseless -- and the monsters and the predators of the world know it and exploit it.”

He criticized Congress for not creating a national database of the mentally ill and called for increased federal prosecution of those who illegally possess guns.

LaPierre did not indicate that the NRA would support any additional restrictions on the sale or possession of guns. He ridiculed the idea that “one more gun ban or one more law imposed on peaceful, lawful people will protect us where 20,000 other laws have failed.”

He assailed the news media which he said had “demonized gun owners.”

And he said “the next Adam Lanza” is “waiting in the wings” and argued that copycat killers are encouraged by “a national media machine that rewards them with wall-to-wall attention and a sense of identity that they crave.”

He also criticized the video game industry and Hollywood movie studios for films such as “American Psycho” and “Natural Born Killers.”

I skipped from page one to seven, soforgive me if someone actually brought these up, but all i read is bickering.

There are many things to consider. Metal detection, armed guards, turn-styles, etc. One thing id like to see is an exit on each classroom. Like a movie theater, you are trapped. Arming teachers? Not sure on that. I've seen people being trained to be fed agents that didn't have what it takes. Now we are going to convert nurturing people into secret service? And how often are they going to re-certify like law enforcement?

Putting 2 guards in each school is very easy. Raise everyone's taxes by $20. Will this stop everything? No, but I'm sure it will stop in schools. They will just hit more malls, theaters, churches, etc. Do you understand what I'm saying? I think you need to deal with the real problem. This makes me think of moles. When I lived in the country, people would talk of mole problems. I used to laugh. I'd say, if you get rid of your grub problem, the moles would come to feed.

Yes, Leeshideaway, very good video clip.  Here is also a good primer on the meaning of the Second Amendment.  Isn't it interesting that these shooters only attack gun free zones, not police stations, NRA conventions, gun shops, or gun ranges.  Very intreresting, no?

by beetree on 22 December 2012 - 13:12

Chaz, I agree about the moles. If you don't have grubs there won't be moles. Time to eliminate the grubs.

The problem with grubs, it usually takes a bit of time for the milky spore to work. In the mean time the moles at large need to be guillotined.

So, that means to me, a basic premise of how we look at "right to bear arms" is the milky spore. And the sad reality that we have become a society that will accept  armed guards as a necessity, means police are needed to guard our children from the enemy of our own making, and thusly, they are the guillotine.

I am no longer an NRA member. We stopped renewing when we tried to buy NRA shooting apparel and found it was all made in Asia. LaPierre makes way too much money; $2M seems like a lot to pay for a lobbyist. NRA members aren't getting much of a bang for their buck.

Correction - LaPierre is paid 1.3M per year.
