"Here is a bet for you. 99% of those pathetic excuses for a GSD couldnt clear the 1 meter jump without knocking it over."
Haz, that´s nonsense, I trained a lot of these "excuses" - no problems
TP, If you want to see "tracking results" you shouldn´t watch a SHOW video, but a TRIAL video. Be glad they have to bite at all on a SHOW...
There was a time when Regional/National SchH competitors had to have a show result of at least "good" - the result was a lot of fake ratings...
There are some good working lines, and there are some good showlines - I´d use them...

You clearly do not understand what herding actually is, which is sad considering that is what the breed was originally for
FTR, IPO isn't work. It is a sport, just like herding trials, tracking, obedience, etc

Good post Mackenzie, as usual
Haz, correct equation is
1st generation
(strong/incorrect conformation X (weak/correct conformation) = Weak to Medium Strong/incorrect to semi correct conformation
2nd generation
Select best from1st generation and re-breed to a strong dog
Medium Strong/Semi correct conformation X Strong/incorrect conformation = Medium to above average strong/less than average to semi correct conformation
3rd generation
Choose best from second generation and breed to a similar second generation dog
Above average strong/semi correct conformation X Above average strong/semi correct conformation
Select above average dogs in both the strength and conformation and breed them to gether and go on improving, without compromising the strength and will to work.
It does not need a nuclear scientist to do that, all it needs is will and desire to breed correct all round dog as standard says, not extreme in conformation and not extreme in drives

1. generation
strong/ correct conformation X strong/ correct conformation
because you are still able to find both in both lines
and then go on...
Genetically there is no difference to a "linebreeding free" breeding within one "line" - a lot of breeders are very proud to announce "linebreeding free" in their litters...

Why wouldn't a breeder strive to breed a GSD that looks like a GSD rather than a Mali x Coyote cross? Too hard to get it right? Without good GSD breed type, regardless of how well it bites, protects, jumps the meter, it's just another dog and nothing special.

I agree Susie, I wanted to go by the claim all show dogs are weak

Xeph show us your dog herding so we can see the power and nerve put on display. I will then explain to you why this has 0 bearing on real work. Your talk about herding is a strawmans argument. This breed is for protection and LE applications as was decided by the breed founder when he realized herding was no longer a realistic application.
IPO happens to be the best venue in existence to show and maintain strong breeding stock capable of fulfilling the above functions.
Do not mention conformation, it is pointless. FORM always follows function. You will NEVER breed a better working dog by taking into consideration conformation.
Beyond good elbows, hips, weight, teeth and good health/agility it means sweet nothing.
I can look at most any dog in the WUSV and BSP this year and I see well put together dogs that are agile and move/work well. Thats all the nod to conformation you need.
If you want to learn about how little conformation means look at the Malinois. Beyond the most minimal considerations as I mentioned above the breed was selected for workability. Somehow all Malinois including the one lying in my livingroom still manage to look similar and in general have better agility and durability then GSD. I bet he can chase sheep around a pen too if I let him..lol.
There is a lesson there even for the most wilfully blind.
Anyways, I wont bother responding again unless there is video not stories.

This single statement shows the heart of your ignorance in regards to the breed. I have posted videos of my dogs. You can see clarity of thought, power, drive, nerve, all of it, if you know how to read your dog.
I don't know why I respond to you at all. Your complete lack of knowledge is evident. There is a very clear difference between dogs that chase stock and dogs that work stock.
