The german way has its biomechanics in the weight pull use a harness and resistance if you want to promote that action.

Do they really look much different? I don't think so. I see a few differences such as there is more showing of rear pad in the ASL than the GSL. Otherwise........damn those dogs look a lot alike.Could it be the GSL's are looking more like the ASL or are the ASL looking more like the GSL's? How scary it that , sportsfans?

Huh? Explain that please?

Right, Xeph. I agree.

Vk, it's dressage, collection, using natural gaits and being one with the horse....you know when a horse is feeling high, he blows his rollers and trots in such a way that he doesn't appear to be affected by gravity?
Get him to do that under saddle, when you ask for it....it's like you're a part of the horse, almost magical.

OMG this is a whole universe of a topic.  I am still stuck on the difference between trot and pace.  Now we are throwing in head carriage, shoulders, AKC v SV...  What next?  I had no idea the subtleties.  I enjoy watching my dog prance- er, gait- er, move around.  Lol!

by joanro on 13 April 2014 - 00:04

Lol, bravo. That's all that matters, that you enjoy your dog. :-)

by vk4gsd on 13 April 2014 - 00:04

Bravo it is interesting. i agree. i want to know why dog people don't use the word canter when the pattern is the same???

Vk, I call it lope.

I can find a few WGSL openly gaiting, Blitzen, but it's harder than finding an ASL.

EDIT: These aren't posted to critique, just some photos I found.  I will say that *for me* these photos give me more information than dogs walking around with one foot up, looking for somebody.  I'd still want to see these dogs in person, considering how hard they're throwing themselves into the lead.  The second dog is moving the easiest, without struggle
